The AUG is just classic cool. It's a bullpup so very compact and handy. Meanwhile the Bren is just like a more modern standard rifle. I prefer my classic AR's and Ak's for a standard rifle. However I can see the improvements the SCAR and Bren made to attempt to perfect the standard rifle into something a bit more modern. But I just never had much interest in them personally.

OP if you want to scratch a piston AR itch, just get a PWS upper.

Buy the AUG.

Like your stanag magazines keep your magazines. I had the choice and went the X95 route. Piston action same magazine release and magazines. More aftermarket choices from rails and chrome lined barrel. Install a good trigger and it's very nice. I still have AR. I like the X95 more than the AUG.

CZ Bren pistol here.
Very very nice. Smoothly shooting 5.56. It's everything an AR pistol should have been.
It's one of those things I would never sell.

I've run one of those.  I agree they are sweet and smooth.  They're heavy, but in SBR form very sweet.  In 16" form - meh, AR for me.

I love CZ’s but the AUG has a special place in my heart because it’s the first gun I ever handled.

Incorrect. The NATO stock AUG does have last round bolt hold open. What it doesn't have is a separate bolt release. One must use the charging handle to release the bolt.

AUG, hard to beat its 50 year track record.

It’ll feel better in the hand, and give you 20” ballistics in a shorter package than a 16” AR. Barrels are relatively cheap, and QD, so you can swap between 16 and 20 easy enough. 300Blk barrels can be had, as well.

Bren’s pretty nose heavy naked, AUG feels very well balanced, even with a heavy optic.

AUG mags are the best available design for a polymer magazine. Magpul’s version is probably the best magazine on the market.

The AUG has a famously awful trigger.

yeaaahhhh about that

the new ones with the bolt release, yeah, they do

you find one of the originals

not bad at all

besides, mute point as you can get drop in's to fix that slick as can be for less than $100

and besides, you still can find registered trigger packs / sears for AUG's

full auto aug is bestest aug
