First of all, about 75 percent of the time, a so-called "stomach bug" or "24-hour stomach flu" is actually food poisoning.

So ride the porcelain honda for a while, until you get all that bad shit out of you, and you'll be good to go. There is no magic bullet for that shit. You'll just have to hang in there until it's over.

Make sure that you keep yourself hydrated. Drinking water is sometimes hard to do, since you drink it and it comes right back up. But keep drinking good cold water.

After you are able to keep things down, eat some yogurt and/or take some florastor (or other probiotic). Ginger ale and peppermint are good to control nausea.

All of the above; but that shit in red there... I had the bug just a few weeks ago. I had the runs, but didn't vomit. Well, my "24 hour" bug turned into a 48 hour bug, I didn't eat anything because, well, who the hell wants to when you have that shit?

I finally forced myself to eat some chicken noodle soup. Half way thru it I lost it...

I immediately felt better. Woke up the next morning and went to work. Even ate eggs and bacon.

Detox bro.

STAY  HYDRATED!!
At all cost stay hydrated, if not, thats the fast track to the ER.
I prefer ice cold orange Gatorade

Other than that, ride it out.
Maybe get some wet wipes if the TP get too rough (if thats an issue)

Drink only water when you are thirsty and this stuff will help with your nausea.

Are you talking nausea pain or gas pains from diarrhea? If the latter, call the doc on call and see if they can call you in some Bentyl. You could always ask for some Zofran for nausea too if that's a problem, I find the dissolving ones work better for me. Heed the advice of staying hydrated. I've seen LOTS of dehydrated patients in the ER lately. Whatever's going around is pretty nasty.

I have actually been feeling about 50% better after I started drinking water. But I can't stand up for long cause I get real dizzy and nauseous. So now I am laying down with my head elevated. It seems to be the only way i feel mostly normal.

And I mean like my stomach is/was very upset and having the runs.

I know it ain't food poisoning. My dad just had the same thing a day ago and my sister and BIL all had it like 3 or 4 days ago.

a slice of fresh ginger about the size and thickness of a nickel will do more to help settle your tummy than most anything.

Thing is, if your horking up your intestines, there's a reason for it.  Maybe you shouldn't interfere.   Drink a little water between bouts.

eta:  sounds like someone gots teh Noravirus.  eat some ginger.

When food poisoned or stomach bug appears, I do two things while riding the porcelain bus.
- Drink some boiled water to help stay hydrated.
- Drink Coca Cola to stabilise the stomach (it works!) and try to get some sugar into the system.
Both also ensures that you actually have something to throw up, instead of yelling "blargh" into the toilet and spitting gastric acid every 15 minutes.

Even better than Gatorade is stuff called PediaLyte (SP)?

It's SPECIFICALLY designed to help keep your electrolytes balanced, when you have vomiting and diarrhea. It's made for babies, but it workes the same for adults.

You can DIE from 2 days of diarrhea. You lose both sodium, potassium, and everything else. Your heart HAS TO HAVE the right concentration of potassium, or it STOPS BEATING. Really. If you go more than 24 hours, and you can't keep fluid down, have somebody take you to the ER. They will put in an IV, and give you IV electrolytes and fluids.

You will feel unbelievably better, in a matter of 15 minutes or so after they  start the IV. It's like IV Lourdes Water.

Yes, you CAN catch it. What's the name of the bug that people on cruise ships are constantly getting? Some virus with a name that begins with an N. Just can't remember it... Driving me nuts.

There are several nasty viruses that do a similar job on your GI tract. Salmonella bacteria will do it to, as well as some other bacteria. It's really  not a 'stomach flu', but it passes from person to person, and gives you vomiting and diarrhea, so it fits the bill in my book.
