Yes, we still have to mail checks to certain places here in rural PA.

After two weeks of waiting for a regular monthly check to clear I called the recipient to find out they never got it.  I tell my wife to re-write it and run it down.  Her flinch reaction "OMG call the bank and have them stop payment".

Today, is there any point to a stop payment for a lost/stolen check?  If the check is "cancelled" all the information someone needs to drain an account is right on the check.  I don't care if the intended recipient cashes it, I'll just get a credit for next month.

I paid 25 dollar to stop a payment on something that was 14 dollars once. It was the principle behind it.

If it's someone you know or a regular vendor just write a new check. Although I guess this would depend on how much it is for.

It's probably been received but who ever has it is waiting until Jan 1 to deposit it.

Key phrase "lost/stolen"

Fuck you stop payments and double dipped stop payments aren't the question
