What string trimmers does arfcom like?
I have an 8 year old Echo that is getting one last attempt at repair. If that fails then I will be in the market for a new unit. I know Stihl, Echo, and Husqvarna are the big dogs, just interested in what you like. |

I've got a Stihl FS-45. Runs well, but damn does anyone make a string for these trimmers that doesn't break after 5 minutes of use?
Or can I get some aftermarket product that uses those thick plastic blades, so I don't have to keep using string? ETA: Or is there a brand of string that is better and tougher than others? This is getting old. LC |

I'm running an Echo Srm230, love it so far. Same here. I have been really happy trimming around the house and fence line, but I gave it it's first serious work out yesterday and was a little disappointed. It kept bogging down and getting weeds wrapped around the head. I was trying to cut down 2' grass in a mesquite thicket. Kinda wish I had bought the bigger model. |

KombiMotor KM 130R powerhead
Attachments I have: Pole pruner Leaf blower Straight line trimmer Brush cutter Curved shaft trimmer Lawn edger I had a Ryobi two stroke trimmer click system, it lasted me 11 years. It finally gave out. I bought the new one from Home Depot, it lasted 3 months. I looked hard at the Echo, the local Echo dealer is a dildo, so I went with Stihl. |

I vote for Echo. I have one going on 2 years and I like it better than any Stihl or Husqy I've used. I recommend putting a bump-feed head on it though. This Echo for trimmers and Stihl for saws This. I would also add edgers to the Echo preference. |

I've got an old Echo SRM-210 that starts and runs like new. OP What's the problem? Maybe I could help you out. The trimmer starts easy and idles nice. When you get on the gas it will not make power. Here is what I have done so far. 1.Cleaned carb 2. Installed carb overhaul kit. 3. Installed new fuel lines 4. New filters. Fuel and air 5. Installed new spark plug 6. Installed new primer bulb 7. Removed muffler to check for excessive carbon build up at exhaust port, none found. 8. Cleaned spark arrestor screen. 9. Installed new fuel cap seal After all this there is no change in performance. I had this same problem last year and a good cleaning was all that was needed. |

Will it make power if you apply *partial* choke? No. It likes choke to start only then full off to run. Touching the choke will kill the motor. It kills me that this thing is being difficult. It's a dirt ass simple machine that is in otherwise excellent condition. It's just my luck that everything turns out to be a P.I.T.A. |

You installed a new fuel cap seal but did you make sure that the fuel cap vent is clear? If not, unscrew the fuel cap partially and see if you can get to full throttle. |

It sounds like a blocked passage of some sort. If you have access to an ultrasonic clean I'd dunk the carb in that and hit it with some high pressure air. Barring that I got nothing. |

Check the low speed and high speed screws, make sure the passages are clean, then adjust to have it idle smoothly, and adjust the other so it will not hesitate with the gas applied. You'll have to find te sweet spot for it to transition smoothly but should work fine after you do. Lots of YouTube videos too If you need them. |

Whats the deal with getting a head with different attachments? Im looking for a brush cutter etc, wouldn't mind an edger option. Every time I start my Poulan Pro I seem to bend the fucking shaft... That's because Poulan hasn't actually made "Pro" anything in fifteen years. If you're serious about cutting brush don't get a split shaft design, get a full shaft trimmer and change heads instead. Go to the Stihl website and see "gearbox attachments" at the bottom of the trimmer page. |
| i have a robin that is over 30 years old that still runs like new and a 15 year old husquvarna that has given me no problems. both have been used on my families 20 acre RV park so they have both been abused quite abitand other than replacing fuel lines on both a few times and a new fuel tank on the robin just yearly spark plug changes. robin is out of business but husky is still going strong. |
