[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Stripper Clips...Who uses them? (Page 1 of 2)

| I find myself loading stripper clips this evening and started wondering is this a common practice? |
|
Nice, I was gonna ask how people store them. |

Loading several hundred rounds a day between sets at a carbine course will make you appreciate having them loaded in strippers before you get there.
Saves wear and tear on the thumbs and gives you an extra minute or two break to grab a drink instead of sweating over loading mags the whole time. |

I keep all my AR-15 ammo that's not already loaded in magazines on stripper clips. To reload a 30-rounder takes just seconds using a charger and ammo on strippers. Get a Butler Creek Stripula Charger and you are good to go. There are many kinds of chargers, but the Stripula is the best.

Nice, I was gonna ask how people store them. In little cardboard boxes in bandoleers. Old Sarge best deal on 4 pocket (120 rnds) bandoleers. This is the same price as it's been for the last five or six years. PSA- if you have an Arisaka, try 7.5×55mm Swiss stripper clips. They work just fine. |

I keep alot of my ammo in clips if it didn't already come in them. Also have the chargers on hand for loading the detatchable mags. This- my "SHTF" ammo is on strippers, and I have a couple of loaders designed for them. I can sink 30 in <10 seconds if I try hard. |

Nice, I was gonna ask how people store them. I bandoliers (7 pockets, 2 ten-round cips) for 140 rounds - 6 bandoliers to .50 cal. ammo can = 840 rounds stowed away |

Only in my SKS My Broomhandle Mausers, pretty much the only way to load them is with stripper clips. I also have 8mm Mauser on stripper clips for my Yugo. I do have a bunch of 5.56mm on stripper clips in bandoleers with spoons but that is my SHTF stash. I should probably practice with it. |

Wellll.... I have a Remington M30 (made in 1931....factory sporter version of the 1917 Enfield). It has the slot for stripper clips, and I find it convenient to carry extra rounds that way in case I get into a discussion with ol' Ephriam up here. May not be necessary, but doesn't hurt any. Finding M1903 stripper clips can be a bit troublesome, but with the "Vintage Military Bolt Rifle" matches becoming more popular, they're getting to be more common.
Otherwise, I have spare ammo in 30-round containers for the 5.56, and 20-round containers for the 7.52. |
| I didn't until I bought a Beta mag a few years ago. It came with a loader for stripper clips. It's pretty much a must for loading 100 rounds into a mag. I now put all my 223 on stripper clips and use the loader for all AR mags. The loader comes with me on all range trips. The Beta mag, less so. |

Have a bunch of 5.56 on strippers in ammo boxes down in the deep dark sub-basement!, but no spoons or metal mags... Just a butt load of PMags! Options???? Thermold makes a charger that will fit onto your PMags to load stripper clips. I've got one too and it works just fine. Brownells has them as do many others. http://www.brownells.com/shooting-accessories/speedloaders-accessories/magazine-speedloaders/magazine-charger-kit-sku100005863-42523-76365.aspx |

The stripper clips for 6.5x55 work well for the 1903, and they're reusable, unlike the true 1903 clips that are pretty much trash once the little tabs break off. A Google search for "6.5x55 stripper clips" will get you a butt-load of places selling them, figure about $30/100. I expect they would also work for the 1917, but can't say for sure since I'm between 1917s right now. |

But the old ladies/kids finger's are just not big enough to reload ![]() All kidding aside.... Thanks just what I needed to save my size 9 big ass hands |

I will check later tonight and post back... Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

There was a great post (linked in the Ammo FAQ) that showed step-by-step how to pack bandoleers into ammo cans, which covered both 4-pocket (120-round) and 7-pocket (140-round) bandoleers.
I was going to post it in this thread. But all the pic links are broken now. Can someone fix? |
