I need 4 short ethernet cables. Monoprice lists both 'patch' ethernet cables and 'straight' ethernet cables. Which do I need for connecting computers to a switch? |
|
Quoted: So I buy the patch or straight, or it doesn't matter? Quoted: Quoted: Patch is "straight" cable technically, which is what you want. Cross over cables are for directly connecting switch to switch or pc to pc. Nope.. just don't buy a crossover |

Quoted: If you got CAT 5e or 6 you are good to go. Quoted: Quoted: Ok, ordered 4 1 ft flat ethernet cables from monoprice for the whooping total of $2.00 Shipping was $2.50 and doubled the price, lol. How does monoprice even make money? If you got CAT 5e or 6 you are good to go. I got them for .50 cents each http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=102&cp_id=10208&cs_id=1020802&p_id=9545&seq=1&format=2 |

The cost of cable plus the cost of two mod ends is only a tiny bit less than the cost of a completed cable from Monoprice. Not worth the time or effort. I only make my own when I need a custom length. For standard length cables, Monoprice is the way to go. |

OP, did you get plenum or riser?

Not to mention things like this are a piss poor practice. Using a straight cable where traditionally you would have a cross. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Especially at the eleventh hour when x fails and y isn't as feature rich. KISS. |

My buddy pulled a spool of cat6 out of a dumpster b/c it was strait not cross over ![]() Now I have 1/2 a roll of cat6 and an endless supply of ends @ work. So my cost is Zero, it is just my time and effort. So I just build them at work. Hell if I look busy people leave me alone, bonus.
I hard wired my TV to a switch in the attic this way. |
