Other than some new, ghey-looking furniture, what's so special about the Gen 2?

Keltec will only make 6 gen 2s between now and 2087. Very rare collectors item.

Glock debuts its carbine in 2088 so there's that.

Great little backpack bug-out gun.

The selling point{s} to me honestly is the threaded barrel and much better front sight (aluminium) .... I think it would be a sweet suppressor host .... I have a Gen 1 and its been 100% reliable and a fun/handy little back pack gun

I'll wait until I can find a "Blue Label" for <$300.

Since it still folds with the top rail essentially folding up on the back half of the rifle, you still can't easily tuck it away without removing your micro T-1.

Putting any form of optic on it immediately makes it less portable, unless you're willing to remove it and hope it stays zeroed what you put it back on.

Also, I'm still surprised that they sell these in any other variants besides Glock mags.

Yeah same here.  Never had a single issue with that gun.  Can be a little rough on the cheek (.40) but it's a fun and accurate little gun.  Mine is currently sitting in the jack compartment in the H3.

Id love to have one with a threaded barrel.

Hmmm, is this going to make Gen 1's more desirable or less?

Apparently the manufacturing process has been improved to allow for much quicker production.  The plastic clamshells on the Gen 1 had to be trimmed back by hand on every single unit, now they don't.  Plus the improved front sight and threaded barrel others mentioned earlier.

Get a RLP rail.  It rotates so you can leave your red dot attached to the rail and still fold it.  The downside is it takes an extra step to unfold (as you are also rotating the rail) and the optic then 'buldges' from the side of the gun when folded.  Its not as compact as the stock gun when folded, but you can have an optic on it.

Interesting, I didn't think they were coming out till 3rd quarter. I kind of want one. But not $600+ want.

But who knows. I thought I wanted a KSG until I actually tried to run one

Unless they can supply market demand to prevent scalping I'll never be interested in their products till Ruger makes an affordable copy.

Im going to get my ffl

Order kel tecs from rsr

double the cost and put all of them on gunbroker

Then laugh all the way to the bank.

By keeping their items in short supply and only selling to distributors it keeps profits insanely high.

They're not cheap, and KelTec was making the SUB-9 & -40 during the ban years.  HiPoint is a latecommer to the party, and they don't fold.

By only selling to distributors, they have less customers.  Since they produce on a limited basis, how is that a bad thing for them?

Or would you rather have 87,000 people bitching at you for your product instead of...I dunno, 30?

supposedly one of the big advantages of the second generation is simplified manufacturing which is supposed to dramatically increase production.

This. I wanted one bad and I had the money up twice to buy one, but each time the only one's I could find were on Gunbroker at scalper prices. I didn't want one that bad and each time the money got spent on something else.

Dunno, none of their plastic trashcan carbines are worth more than 400 bucks (with 4 Glock mags), which is what I paid for my 9mm at an Ocoee gun show.

Meh.
I have both and neither one has disappointed me.
The HiPoint is a bit more accurate, but the KelTec can fold and use >10rd mags.
Both have proven quite reliable.

Sub comes with a stock without having to go the SBR or Sig Brace route like the EVO.

Funny thing is, the Sub-2000 is actually an incremental update of Kel-Tec's older Sub-9 folding pistol caliber carbine.

So what we're discussing in this thread is actually a Gen 3.

If they make enough to actually sell, I'll have one. Been waiting for years to find one in the wild. Fuckin' rails on everything suck but I guess I could overlook that.

Horrible sight picture with stock sights. I roll with a RLP rail with a red dot and removed the stock sights. Fun gun.
5/13/2015 1:38:04 AM EDT
[#47]
Will they still come with sights so low as to be completely unusable?

Are we sure the gen 2 has a threaded barrel?  Pics don't look like it - I know the specs said it would.  Anyone seen one in the wild?

What chambering/mag and how much?!

I've wanted one for a long time.  Didn't buy when the price was around 350-400 local and been kicking myself since.  On the rare occasion they pop up around here now, they're damn near 7hundo.  Eff that ess.
