Dont get me wrong.  I love me some double bass and speed guitar. BUT.....why do most of these bands hire the same lead singer?

I dont know man...  I think the "heaviest" singers are the ones who sing hard but without the guttural false sounding death growl.  Phil Anselmo, Tom Araya etc...  I think that's because the fantasy novelty wore off a bit in my old age.

However, sometimes a good death growl just fits the mood.  I think the point of death metal is that it is fantasy music for a world where god and the devil are at war, black magic and demons actually exist, and that people are banding together against god.  It's not real sounding and it's not supposed to be.  At least that's how I saw it when I was into it in the 90s.

Thats a good way to look at it. I tend to think of the vocals as another instrument kinda like a guitar. It adds a lot without really singing.

Roger That.
Every generation of young warriors has
its own music.

That's me, A Sateen Marine.
Bought my own tickets to Uriah Heep, Black Sabboth, Iron Maiden, UFO, AC/DC ...

But, I do enjoy some Good Ol' IRIS:

Dropping some Arkaea here because Raymond Herrera and Christian Old Wolbers are still two of my faves, even though they couldn't put aside their differences with Dino in order for the Fear Factory crew to be whole again on their latest album.

You're going to burn in a very special level of hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater.

One of the most impressive screams I've *ever* heard is this intro scream.  17 solid seconds.  I can barely hold a whisper scream that long.

And now for something completely different from my usual death/thrash/melodeath postings...

PS - I HATE Zeppelin but this cover is incredible.

(Sometimes I get death metalled out.)

No- It's De Niro from the movie Taxi Driver. Amon Amarth next week, Down the week after. Summer Slaughter is tonight in Dallas but I can't make the drive three weeks in a row.

Here's a few pics I took of Amon Amarth from last night at the House of Blues in Dallas:

Badass show- No opening bands. They played their whole new album, took a break then came back out and played a whole other set.
