Just picke up a new Surefire G2 with the LED. HOLY CRAP IS THIS LIGHT BRIGHT! I used to carry a Streamlight rechargable Stinger on my duty belt. That is going in the drawer and this new G2 is going to replace it. I will try to post some pics tonight of the difference between the two.

+1 I got one as a Christmas present, and thought, "How is this one little LED going to outshine my already bright G2 Nitrolon?"

I got an education about 3 seconds after that and my incandescent G2 is now a (backup) nightstand light.

tagging for pics. I carry a G2 Nitrolon at work (shameless plug for Brightflashlights ) and it's brighter then our d-cell maglights.

Great little light! I am not a huge fan of LEDs because of the white/blue light, but the increased illumination and battery life make that a moot point!

Just waiting for the sun to go down. FYI I am going to test a rechargable Streamlight Stinger, a 4 D-Cell sized rechargable Mag-Light and my new Surefire G2 LED.

Stay tuned..........

While you are updating, pick up the rechargeable conversion for your G2.  It's my duty light now with a regular G2 LED as a back up.

Ok, here we go, sorry about the crappy photos, camera had a hard time focusing.

The Contenders

I usually have the Mag Lite in my cruiser, and the Stinger on my duty belt

Shed is 23 yards away with full size Mag Lite

Streamlight Stinger

Surefire G2 LED

Now in my basement, wall about 10 feet away with full size Mag Lite

Streamlight Stinger

Surefire G2 LED

The pics are very decieving, the Surefire looks 100 times better in person. It puts out almost the same if not more light than my full size Mag Lite at 1/4 the size and double the battery life.

I'm currently using a 6P with Z32 bezel and P61 lamp/reflector in a Larue mount on my M4.  Anybody compare the G2 LED to the P61 lamp/reflector?

I have to buy my own 123s.  What's battery life like with the G2 LED?

Wow..the shed pics are very telling. Can you get a conversion kit to change a stock g2 to an LED?
Damn..I'm turning into a flashlight whore..

With the LED the G2 can produce up to 80-90 lumen and the runtime is 12 hours, the light is not regulated so the light will get dimmer as the batteries are consumed. It uses two c123 primary batteries.

To answer your question, yes you can buy a conversion kit, it's called the P60L I believe and it's just the light head.

Another idea to toss about in your head.  I got a Surefire 9P which is a 3-cell CR123 metal body light, and took the LED head from my G2LED and put in it, and well, more juice, brighter light!!!

The best part about the G2LED is the fact that you get 10X the battery time that the standard G2 has.  I first got mine about 2 months ago and have only replaced the batteries once, and I work evenings...

During inspection at rollcall today, the Sarge checked flashlights.  The light was so bright and tight when shined on the floor, the guy next to me said, "That's not a flash light, it's a laser."
