| I have a 2000 Silverado, it's a 4x4 and my suspension is shot. I was looking at Oreillys and there's over 100 different options and they mean absolutely nothing to me. What's the difference? Why are some $200 and others are $35? I have no idea what I'm looking for, they all look the same to me...anybody have any advice? |

"Suspension is shot" can mean many things.
Have you been keeping the front end greased? There are 11 fittings that need to be greased every 10,000 miles. Are the bushings shot, or just the shocks? If this is just a shock replacement, then it is easy. Bilstein shocks are the way to go. They are not cheap, though they last a LONG time. |

Like I said, I'm looking at Oreillys just because they're right by my house, but I could look wherever. On the Oreillys website, they show KYB, Monroe, Rancho, Explorer, and Superlift. But in each one of those there's a lot of options. What should I look for?
And to answer your question, I'm just looking for shocks. I have one in the rear that's actually broken. I just got the truck a few months ago, it is a 2000 and I don't think they shocks have been replaced any time recently. I don't know at all what I'm looking for so any help is appreciated. |

If it is a 2000 and has never had the shocks replaced, and one is broken, there are almost certainly other suspension parts that are in need of attention. I would recommend you take it to a competent mechanic to have it inspected, shocks and whatever else is needed replaced. Just say no to Monroe. |

bilsteins are the way to go. putting on a set of shocks is pretty easy on those trucks. you need basic tools and a few hours. idler and pitman arms tend to wear out on these trucks. might want to have those checked... when was the last time you had it into a reputable shop? if its been a while i would take it to one and have them do a inspection on it. |

Bilsteins are nice...and relatively expensive.
Rough Country has a new shock out (their 2.2) with a massive piston shaft. Overbuilt, good ride, and won't break the bank. http://www.roughcountry.com/performance_shock.html |
