I'd expect 'engagement ring' pricing.

Anyone have experience with 338 Lapua? Why this round?

AFAIK, relatively flat shooting and retains a lot of energy out to pretty extreme ranges.

+1.  Very popular worldwide.  Bridges the gap between the 7.62 and the 50.  300gr SMK @ 2800fps.  B.C. .768......really cool if you and your optics can handle it

Hero sniper Craig Harrison, 35, nailed the killers with a rifle bullet each as the pair manned a machine gun - then for good measure let rip a third shot that took out their weapon.

It's quickly becoming the sniper round of choice for major militaries.
With all that said though, if I was in the market for a .338 lap mag I don't see the Barrett being worth 2-2.5k more than the 98B that it is based on or worth what AI is asking for an AX or AW/SM.

Exactly, I'll take that every time over the 98b/mrad.
