So damn happy about this. Its built on the XP150 core. Its not the latest and greatest but it wasnt designed to be. It is *damned* effective at finding shit at night. For target location it is to night vision what stadium lighting is to a maglight. Yeah, that good. Target identification leaves something to be desired though.

I couldnt be more happy with my setup. Well, I could....I need a good IR flashlight. No ifs and or buts. Well, and an adapter to mount the MUM to a scope too. Course I could also use...

Awww shit. Man, this game gets expensive.....

And of course a picture of the wife.

Awesome, it would be cool if you take a 'scope shot' with it.

Youtube "OMGIS". I dont have the setup to really capture the video from the thermal unit. For anyone who saw it, it was the reason I had the thread a few days back asking about a camcorder with an AV IN option.

ETA:

CR123 or it also has a cable to plug into a cigarette lighter.

Nice kit!

Is there a reason why you bought a long wave IR unit instead of a medium wave unit?

Less than the MUM it sits next to thankfully.

FLIR has released a new unit at the 3k mark. Looks like a good viewer although it is a 9hz viewer so fast motion is choppy but it is an entry level viewer.

I suppose it's all relative, and relative to what I'm familiar with it's big. Not that I wouldn't mind having one myself!

I wonder if something like this system could be patched into a helmet-mounted screen, or to an LCD mounted on the side of the rifle?

That would definitely be Hack-tastic

ETA: now that I think about it, what a fantastic adjunct to an NVG-equipped rifle.  Mount that thermal unit to the side of your helmet (protec or MICH with the side-rail), with a small, wearable LCD screen for the non-dominant eye.  Use that to scan the area.  If a target presents itself, (or you want better ID), switch to the rifle-mounted NVG as they get close enough... though that would require you to "scope" every object you're attempting to ID.

Hmm...
