Swore in to the USAF today at St. Louis MEPS. Passed the ASVAB and my physical with flying colors. I am qualified for just about every job. My AFSC choices are in this order: Fire Protection, Security Forces, EOD, Loadmaster, Flight Engineer, Aeromedical Evacuation, and Air Traffic Control. Projected ship date is sometime in November. Thanks for listening. It's been a long day. Alex |
19 years and a couple days ago I shipped off to bmt at Lackland. Spend 4 yrs as an SP in law enforcement. If I were doing it over...... EOD!!! Get paid to blow things up, AND there's definitely a future in it with the antiterrorism shit going on. Try not to lose any fingers ( or other body parts ) tho ![]() Thanks for serving and do us all proud! |

Congratulations! I entered Lackland on 14 November...a while ago. Your entry date depends on the job. If you have wiggle room, I might suggest trying to change your entry date. You'll end up spending christmas at Lackland - I did, and I don't highly recommend it, although it's certainly an experience. Ever think about taking the DLAB? ![]() |
| Yes my recruiter has mentioned the linguist jobs and the signing bonus associated with such jobs. I'm just not interested in that. I am somewhat familiar with Security Forces and what they do but if you have experience feel free to IM me or reply in this thread because I'd like to hear what you have to say. |
Linguist jobs usually come with TS/SCI clearances. If you score well and get Arabic or Farsi, you can make obscene $$$$ with government contractors when you get out. You also get a nice long AIT at Monterey and Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, TX. |
| Confirmed ship date: November 1st. I will meet with a job counselor at basic training and should know what my job is by the 1st week of December (week 5 of basic training) I'm very excited to go. Not so excited to quit smoking and get my ass back in shape but it comes with the job. Thank you all. |

Dude, Take an Ops job. I was a 2W1 (bomb loader) for four years in the active duty. Then got out, because I couldn't stand active duty, and joined the Alaska Air Guard to become a (1A7) Gunner on Helicopters. From and old maintenance dude, TAKE A FLYING JOB!!!!! I can't stress this enough. Out of the jobs you listed my picks would be EOD, Loadmaster, Flight Engineer. If I couldn't be a Gunner, I'd want to be EOD. ~Dg84 ETA: DO NOT GO SECURITY FORCES! |

Sounds like you will be SF, unless you got a written guarantee of an AFSC. AFSC's My 2 cents... Fire fighting= Boring as hell. A plus though is you will become an expert ping-pong player and a master of Spades. SF= More exciting now that a war is going on but still a mundane AFSC . EOD= Cool AFSC but very high washout rate and you could find yourself typing Sqdn. memo's as a 702 for 4 years as an orderly room bitch if you wash. FE= Cool AFSC and you get to wear AC Jammies but can be hell on marriages... AE= OK But you have to hang out at the clinic. A plus though is lots of hot & horny chicks at tech school itching after the 7 week dry spell ! ![]() ATC= Good post mil job opportunities but still it's a real stressfull AFSC with alot of burnout... |
