Commandancy of the The Alamo
Bejar, Feby. 24th. 1836 To the People of Texas & All Americans in the World- Fellow Citizens & compatriots- I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna - I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man - The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken - I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls - I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch - The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country - Victory or Death. Texas has awesome toll roads with rates that remind me of northern Illinois. The fine state even sends a photo of your license plate. Not a great photo, one that is almost legible. They take their time about getting around to sending a bill, too, exactly one year from driving until the dun shows up.
Awesome. |

| Often I like to reflect on how blessed and fortunate to not only live in the United States....but also to live in the greatest state in the greatest nation in the world. I ask myself what did I do to deserve that? Nothing......... But I've done all that I could to earn the right to keep that blessing. God bless Texas, God bless America. |

I was blessed in 7th grade Texas history class to have a teacher who was a true Texas patriot. She was a 60ish black lady. She loved Texas and taught us every day why it was worth loving.
She told us many times that Texas was worth fighting and dying for in the past and that we might need to do so again in our lifetime. I don't imagine that would be tolerated much now days. |

5th generation Texan. One of my distant relatives (Dewitt) helped paint the Gonzales flag. (That's "Come and take it" for you non-Texans.)
We have a weak constitutional government as a result of reconstruction, so it's hard to get things done, and it takes time. We were also mostly democrat until recently, also because of reconstruction and the shitstorm the Yankee republicans brought down here. FAL (Fuck Abraham Lincoln). It's no mystery why FBHO admires him and his federalist worldview. There is no place in the world with a more fiercely independent spirit than Texas. Don't like it, then stay out. We don't want you anyway. |

If Fort Worth is where the west begins, dallas is where the east ends. I don't like dallas either. Spent a lot of my career there......seems like too many people trying to be something they aren't. |
