An internal investigation of the Transportation Security Administration revealed security failures at dozens of the nation’s busiest airports, where undercover investigators were able to smuggle mock explosives or banned weapons through checkpoints in 95 percent of trials, ABC News has learned.
The series of tests were conducted by Homeland Security Red Teams who pose as passengers, setting out to beat the system. According to officials briefed on the results of a recent Homeland Security Inspector General’s report, TSA agents failed 67 out of 70 tests, with Red Team members repeatedly able to get potential weapons through checkpoints. In one test an undercover agent was stopped after setting off an alarm at a magnetometer, but TSA screeners failed to detect a fake explosive device that was taped to his back during a follow-on pat down. https://gma.yahoo.com/exclusive-undercover-dhs-tests-widespread-security-failures-us-110647463--abc-news-topstories.html |

Why would they announce this?? Seems like its just asking for an attack. They announce a similar failure rate every year. Clearly it's how they get the terrorists to feel overconfident and THEN they get them. But the don't post those results. Because then the terrorists would be on to them. Kinda like the FBI has said the PATRIOT act hasn't allowed them to find shit, but we have to keep in in effect. Do you even PsyOps bro? |

We can't not know what we don't know without allowing the terrorists to not know what we can't not want them to know. Do you WANT terrorists flying into buildings? Because public accountability and transparency is how you get it! |

Why would they announce this?? Seems like its just asking for an attack. Perhaps it is CTA time? They show that they are failing, next they will request more funds to fix it, pay for better training, more equipment and any other BS they can think of, which they fully expect even hope gets denied by the Republicans. This way when the real deal happens they already have an excuse locked and loaded and can aim the blame at the right at those same Republicans. |

Just out of curiousity... did they do these tests or similar ones when airport security was private contractors? What were some of the fail/pass rates of those tests? Yes they did, and they were similar, at least at DFW when I was doing post 9/11 security. Hilariously (or maybe not so hilariously), all of the immigrants who were working the checkpoints before 9/11 that they fired weeks after 9/11 to bring in TSA all got jobs with TSA... |

I'm not the least bit surprised. Ever patted-down several hundred people in a 12 hour shift? I have and even the best folks are just going through the motions after a while....Myself included. They need to just profile then pull those they don't like the cut of their jib and a X number of average people and do a really good pat-down with experienced staff. It would do as much good as the BS they are doing now. Less is more if it's done right. |

In Miami on Sunday they "discovered" the $10 cork-screw I'd used twice and mistakenly put in my carry-on bag!
It had a "blade" that I didn't even know it had - which was a whopping 3/4 inch long! Oh, the horror!!! I guess that made 'em feel like heroes! They sure were smug about it. |
| I'm floored that this has been made public. I trained with a guy who did this stuff for a living. He estimated that 5 years ago, 85% to 90% of contraband got through. And by contraband, he meant simulated explosives and de-milled firearms. Not even crafty shit. Like a G19 broken into two components and separated into two different bags. |

TSA/Airport security is a complete joke.
I just flew to Spain and back, going through secruirty at Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Newark and Madrid. All the US security does is add another target. Busy week day? Few hundred people in line for security? Come on. Edit: Spain's security -will- piss you off. I got 'randomly' selected by them. Running off with my passport without telling me where the fuck you're going is a quick way to see a big american start being angry. |

It comes out multiple times a year either globally or at individual airports. Nashville 2012 TSA blog from 2010 - 70% Detection Failure Rate Being Reported is Based on Testing from 2004-2005 2004 article about TSA agents diming out the agency for watering down standards because too many people were failing 2013 - Newark has inspector smuggle in fake bomb twice 2010 story about them failing 70% or more of the tests But on the upside, my deodorant only comes in 2.3 ounce containers now so I get to buy it more often which helps the economy. Hooray. |
