So im flying out of minneapolis today, back to school in grand forks and I checked my two 1911's. The lady behind the counter's eyes get big when she sees them and is like yea, um I have no idea how to see of those are unloaded will you show me? So I spend a few minutes showing her how to clear a pistol and then she gives me the card and takes me to the TSA. I open the case for the guy and hes like wow you must be a police officer or something and I said no, Im just a concerned citizen. He sees my knee pads (that Im bringing up to install a wood floor with, they arent like tactical or anything) and remarks wow, you must have got those from your wife, and then profusly apologizesa after his sup glared at him. I didnt see a problem with it and it made me laugh. The TSA isnt all bad.

But going from grand forks to minneapolis, I had 64 rounds loaded in 8 1911 magazines (wilson combats)in a seperate hardcase and the lady put ducttape over the feedlips becuase "the ammunition might go off" and that even in magazines in a fitted hardcase its still "loose". Thats really odd, ive flown with them like that about 9 times and ive never had any one say or do anyhting about loaded mags in a hardcase. What gives?

From TSA regs:

"You can't use firearm magazines/clips for packing ammunition unless they completely and securely enclose the ammunition (e.g., by securely covering the exposed portions of the magazine or by securely placing the magazine in a pouch, holder, holster or lanyard)."

They were in cutout foam in a hard plastic gun case
