GoatBoy,

I'm honestly not certain if this should go here or in Site Suggestions, because it's a question (first, anyway), not a suggestion or problem (yet).

It has to do with the search tool/utility, and the parameters.

The main site search has a "max" time period of "Last Three Months," but tacked threads may be from more than three months out.  This is especially true for tacked+locked threads, which may not see any activity for a loooong time.

My question: Taking the above into account, does the "Last Three Months" parameter basically just search everything that is on the main site?  Or does it ignore those tacked or tacked/locked threads that have not had any "activity" on them for more than three months but have not yet been moved to the Archive Server?

Thanks in advance.

ETA: Almost answered my own question.  Go to the Hunting Forum and check out DBrewer842's [first] thread (here), or News & Announcements and check out your thread [first] (here).  Both are from 2001 and do not come up in a search of the main site.

Caveat: Both of these are technically "Alerts" and you may have opted to not include Alerts in search results when you configured the search.  Still looking for a tacked or tacked+locked thread as an example........

Update: Finally found an example:

Tweak's tacked thread here, in "AR-15 >> Troubleshooting".

Even though it's not locked, it's had no activity since first posted (6/14/2005), so it's outside the "Latest 3 Months" param for the search.

A search for "Author"="Tweak" (other params set to "Fields"="Topic Authors" AND "Board"="All Boards" AND "Date Range"="Last 3 Months") returned zero results ("No Topics Found").

Do you think that:

a) I can get this thread/topic moved to "Site Suggestions"?

b) The "Last 3 Months" date param can be changed to search everything on the main server?

I just wish we could search post BODIES like we can in the archive.  Given that the site is always loaded heavily as it is and in need of upgrading from time to time to get access times down, I'm not holding my breath for the ability to search post bodies...

Being able to search for ANYTHING that's not archived would be nice, now that you mention it.
