So I just realized that I don't have much time left as a civilian so as the title says I am looking for OSUT advice from anyone who has been through it before. Preferable Army vets but any tips would be welcome from anyone in the military who went through the initial training. I am going in as an e3. I am 21 years old and married. No kids. Infantry, I would like to go to Airborne or RASP if I can. They wouldn't give me the option 4 or option 40 contract due to a medical waiver for a knee surgery. What should I expect? What should I pack? My recruiter sucks so I haven't received any advice from him. |

If you go to 2/58 they'll let you order pizza right to the company CQ without even asking. It looks like I will be either 1-19 or 1-50 ETA: I literally just realized you were joking. Holy fuck I'm screwed ![]() Cool!!! 1/50 is right across the street from 2/58, and that whole "House of Pain" thing is just a goofy myth about the place. Just grab your stuff when you're on fire guard and head over there, the full time butler will be glad to get you a bunk. |

I was A 1-19, Dont eat the cake...Just pay attention and learn all you can. When I was there in 04, SF came by and asked if anyone wanted to go to 18x. As for Airborne and Ranger good luck with that, you never know though, they might have openings You and I both know from experience that his chances of getting a slot at ABN/RGR/SF will be greatly improved if he has a "DEATH FROM ABOVE" tattoo already when he gets to the 30th AG. |

Quoted: you will be the old man of the platoon. Try not to kill any of the dumbass kids. married without kids, you are in for a tough road bro!! No kids yet. I've been with my wife for 6 years, lived together for 2. Got married in June. Decided to get married if I was enlisting. Thank god I was smart enough to not knock her up...yet |

She would like to see me go 18x since her grandfather was a green beret in nam. If I get the shot I will take it. Thanks for the advice.

Drill Sgts respect it when you challenge their commands. It shows you aren't afraid and will make a good leader. For extra cool points don't wear a pro mask into the gas chamber. they will also take pics of you if you wear their hat while in the chow hall for graduation ceremonies |

Holy fuck I'm screwed ![]() I was E 1/19 back in 02. Only advice I can offer is drink water constantly, more than they say to. Try to stay awake in schoolhouse classes. As was said above, don't eat the cakes and cookies and shit. If they allow you to have pizza, burgers, sodas, etc, don't take them. They wait for everyone to get full and happy, then they smoke the shit out of you and everyone vomits. Don't bet on using the phone. You might get a good place in line for it, but just plan on writing a lot of letters. Do eat the instant coffee on the bayonet(I think I read somewhere they changed it) if they still allow you to keep it from MREs. It was 25mi when I did it and it was rough. MAKE SURE THE IDIOT CIVILIANS AT UNIFORM ISSUE GET YOU THE RIGHT SIZE BOOTS!! MINE WERE TOO SMALL AND I LIMPED THROUGH THE WHOLE 14 WEEKS!! I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH!! Don't be that guy, either one. |

No he won't be. I went thru at 30 and I wasn't the old guy. I had a 42 y/o PV2.
Keep your mouth shut, pay attention, work hard, PT your ass off. Show interest in RASP and Airborne if you're interested. If someone with an Airborne contract gets dropped/kicked out, the slot opens up. That's how my buddy got to go to jump school. Quoted:
