After going through this year's tax season, I'm thoroughly convinced that the system is flawed.  Here's my dilema:

I went to school/graduated, got a job, kicked and scratched to become successful and earn a decent leaving.  As I make more income, I pay more taxes.  To what this is telling me is that I shouldn't work as hard and essentially become a bum and therefore not have to pay as much taxes.  I know several people that don't work and are essentially baby factories and get a ton of money back from the state (welfare).  What's wrong with this scenario?

I listened to this lady on radio one time that sort explained it to me why people that make more money should have to pay more taxes, it basically came down to the fact that if you make more $$$, it takes the "system" more resources to protect you, provide you level of services, etc.  I don't know if makes sense anymore.

I am in favor of paying for taxes as it provides us with services that we essentially need but having to pay the alternative minimum tax, falling into the higher level tax brackets, etc. is getting out of control.  What is everyone's opinion on this matter?

Here is the solution for your foes:

It isn't good enough just to say you are for it.  You NEED to write your congressman and senator and let them know that you demand that the IRS be abolished along with all taxes, except for a NRST.

I'll be honest.  I think even a "flat rate" tax is bullshit.  On general moral principles, why should someone who makes $100k pay more taxes than someone who makes $30k?  Do they get more services for those taxes?  No.  I have never heard a satisfactory answer to this question.  I only hear that it's "not nice" to make people with lower incomes pay the same tax as people with higher incomes.  I honestly believe there is no consistent moral argument for unequal (dollar amount) taxes among people.  Is this popular?  No, because it makes everybody pay taxes, and it makes .gov severely cut its budget (rather than tax lower income folks to death).  The latter argument is bullshit, however.  "We want to spend $X billion" is not a good reason why the citizens of this country should spend $X billion.  I believe any permanent resident of the US should pay an equal tax; anything else is socialist bullshit ("rich people should pay more because......they can").  I have always felt this way, even when I was working minimum wage jobs.
