I recently switched to the ATT Uverse internet.  I hooked up my laptops to the wireless network without a problem, but an older desktop won't connect to the network.  It sees the modems but won't connect.  When I try to connect to the wireless modem, the screen and computer freezes after I enter the security code.  Again both laptops were no problem using same code.

The computer is a dell running XP with a belkin wireless adapter.

Questions.  Is the problem likely the wireless adapter?  Assuming yes, which brands are the best these days?  I should get "wireless G", correct? or is something else the current state of the art?   Are the PCI cards better than a USB adapters?

Keep in mind I don't need the absolute latest and prefer to stay well below the top on price performance curve.

You might check Belkin's website and see if they have an updated driver for your wireless adapter.

This is a wireless adapter?  Is it built-in, pci, usb?

If it's kind of old, it might not have the capability to connect to newer encryptions.  I've seen some that would do wep fine, but wouldn't do wpa.  Never seen one freeze before though, thats weird.

Maybe I should have called it wireless card?  It is a pci card installed in my older desktop system.  It ran fine using the previous dsl wireless modem (2wire), but no longer works with the new modem installed by ATT.

I checked the existing driver, but it is the current one.  It is old, 2003 but current.

Thanks for the advise..  What is a good current brand of wireless pci card?

ETA:  Linksys?  D-link?   Netgear?  PCI or USB?
