About a month ago I tested for a small department in South Eastern WA. I thought the physical was a huge joke. I've spent just over two years in the Marine Reserve (one of those years was on active duty). I'm not sure how all states do the testing, but at least here I had to do a 300 meter run, 1 1/2 mile run, pushups, and situps. I maxed out on all of those. I was the fastest on the 300 meter run and the 1 1/2 mile run. The run I finished in 10 minutes, and the nearest behind me was 3 minutes i believe. Is this kind of results normal for the physical portion of testing. Are civilians really that out of shape?

We also did the video test. I thought it seemed like a waste of time to do that too. They would present different situations, then ask what you would do. On some of those I felt there were more than one correct answer, and I would have combined several of the answers into one had it been a real situation.

The Oral Board seemed kind of wierd too. The seemed to ask me the same questions over and over. That department is an extreme example of Community Oriented Policing, so it seemed like all their questions required the same answers, the only difference was the situation.

I'm testing again this next weekend for a different department (The one that is number one on my list), and I would like to know if my experience with the testing of the first department was normal. Also, this department uses a written test, they don't do the video test. Is the written going to be much different? Or will it be fairly similar?

Also, when PD's look at applicants, do they look at their resume prior to the testing, and pick ones that they would prefer more than others? And how much does your performance on the physical influence them? Does an excellent performance look great? Or do they even look at that too much, and as long as you pass you're fine.

If you guys got any tips that would be great. I really want to work for this department, and any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.
