Got into a debate today with one on my NCOs, what would happen if TX secedes from the union? I think TX would do ok, (assuming a slow mobilization of federal forces due to foreign commitments etc) atleast be able to fight federal forces to the point where they can force a diplomatic solution due to high federal casualties,  the SSG thinks TX will get owned in the 1st week. I'd make a poll but i suck at AR15.com... figured out how poles work

Oh boy another Texas leaving the union thread.

We Californians would send our Red Chinese friends over the Bering straight during winter so they can march right over the ice pack and down into Texas to quell the uprising with our air support.

In exchange for their service we will allow them to resettle the South and maybe even give them Arkansas for a job well done. This way no Californians will have to get their hands dirty except for maybe building a few East-West cultural centers.

I don't know what would happen, but I wish it would, as I'm beginning to believe an event of that nature is the only glimmer of hope I'll have to raise children in a free country.

I think that there's a damn good chance that the majority of US troops would choose to not fight against their fellow countrymen.

I know with absolute certainty that a lot of US civilians would choose to stand with Texas.

True, but I doubt there would be much 'full weight of the Union'.
If things got that bad, I imagine there would be so much turmoil in DC that the command chain would be broken in several places, at least compliance wise.
The Joint Chiefs and Pentagon would be consulting the Supreme Court and maybe Congress (at least parts of Congress). The President would be challenged on any kind of political move to move troops against a State.
There would not be another suspension of Habeas Corpus, SCOUS has the Taney ruling as precedent and won't be ignored again. A stacked SCOUS would know it risks full revolution if it tried to pull anything.
Popular sentiment would be so vast that Congress would have to listen. The People would probably have a Constitutional Congress called.
I imagine that there would be many units that would stand down/refuse to mobilize against another state.
There would be long drawn out debate over whether such an order was Constitutional or legal- especially if that state breaks things off politically and doesn't initiate military action first. This would be as much a delaying tactic as a search for the answer, no General wants to go down in history as being the first to order firing on Americans. This isn't the 1860's, our self identity is not the same as back then. DC is seen by many as the problem, not individual states.
Plus, the Fed Gov would be on the other side of the moral equation. Fighting against freedom (of the People and the States) rather than for it.
There would be other states with them too. LA, OK, AK, maybe AZ and FL. Heck probably more. (I can only hope KS, who knows). Certainly vast areas of other states would be supportive in some way.
If TX threatened to turn of the oil/gas pipelines coming from Houston then they would have a serious bargaining chip. Plus damage to the energy infrastructure may deter large scale military actions.
Heck the shear number of journalists would prevent carpet bombing...

But, if things were that bad, then the administration would obviously be out of control, so who knows.

I mlght be wrong but I don't think our troops will fight us at home they are aware of the BS that is going on and they are not sheepeople. I would hope that some of them would see though Obambo and his assholes. Our military is run by wise warriors  that are not about to sell out the people of our great land

Even though this has bee ncovered numerous times, I'll post this again.

If Texas did seceded, there would be more than a few states that would secede shortly after them. Most of the Southwest would go with them. Now for those that want to say that the military would step in, think again. The LEO's might help the gov't, but for the most part if it is done properly there will be little bloodshed.

Most of the people don't want to face the fact that it will not be the secessionists out blowing up power plants, cutting food supplies, and all the other stuff we like. It will be our own gov't doing this. While we will try to minimize civilian casualties, our gov't won't. The revolution will start small and quickly gain support as the civilian casualties mount.

Those here in the Southwest and also the Midwest and West, tend to be an independent lot. And that is something that needs to be understood if your going to plan a secession.

Most of the Revolutions that have happened in history have been done by a small and very motivated population. Most of the sheeple won't give a damn either way as long as there lives aren't interupted. In other words, keep the lights on and the food flowing and they will just stay out of the way of both sides.

Dave_A you welcome to refute my points if you like.

We're still fighting a bunch of poorly equipped third worlders in Iraq after how long? Yeah, I think Texas could hold her own. It's not easy for a conventional army to defeat a guerilla force who holds the support of the people.

Might even give me an excuse to make the quick trip down I35.

Grew up in Texas, and left Texas at first opportunity.  So I have some insight.

It will not happen any time soon, in my opinion.  Texans are way too Federalized and effeminized to secede in reality.  Talk abounds, but I doubt the action is there.

Texas is being destroyed and rotted from the inside out, and the sad thing is that most Texans, arrogant and self-righteous as they are, simply will not accept this fact.  Some won't even acknowledge the pro-gay junk going on in Dallas right now.

HOWEVER: if it DID happen?  Roused Texans have an incredible resolve.  It doesn't take 100% to fight a determined resistance.  If they didn't kick the Union's butt, they'd at least hold their own.

Hmmmm. A good chunk of the military is overseas and engaged at the moment. It's currently deer season in Texas so most of us have had our yearly rifle qualification. I think Texas could hold them off through the first month or so but ammo would run out quickly with no chance of resupply.

In my experience....

Texas isn't going to secede.  The people with wealth won't, wisely, support a succession.  Based upon the Texans I have met, the people with any degree of intellectual capacity will evacuate Texas at the sign of a serious rebellion.

The only people who have a love for Texas are the people who have only lived in Texas.  People whom I have known who grew up outside of Texas and have moved to Texas can't get out of Texas fast enough.

Other people that I know who grew up in Texas and have subsequently moved out, never want to go back to Texas ever again.

A "Texan" true to the word seems to be a person who is afraid of outside cultures.

as part of the TSG Black Ops.

Well    it prob  won't  happen anytime soon but  if I recall correctly  it  took a  vote of the  populace  of  a  particular  region to  get into the Union.     If the populace  then decided to leave the  Union again  thru the  legitimate voting  mechanism  then   why not let them  go ??     Fo time and  nukes strike by couch commandos  aside  I wonder  what the process is  for a  state to  formally  apply to  leave the Union  ?

Not sure it would be a  good idea  just yet  because  the seceeding states  would not have the military  clout of the  US  and   might be suceptible to  agression from   other nation states.  But is there anything in the constitution  that   describes the  process  for a  state  to  leave the union ?

Interesting   scenario

One of the many things TX would have in its favor is that many soldiers would not fight against other Americans.  I've had that "what if" conversation with many of they guys at work and most of em would refuse to fight, surrender at the first opertunity, or would desert outright.
