I haven't really been taking photos the last few weeks, so I decided to get out and take some tonight while the weather was beautiful.  Plus it got me out of the house and trying to get out of this funk I've been in.

So these were taken between ~11pm and Midnight tonight.  Other than the truck photo, there was an absolute minimum of post processing.

Nikon D7200
Nikon 14-24mm F2.8G ED
Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED
random tripod with a Manfrotto ballhead

Edit 07/29:  Two photos added at the bottom of this post are from tonight with the 14-24mm f/2.8 lens.

Thanks   I love this time of year.  Still warm and everything is green, but we're starting to get a little dark (18 hours 42 minutes of daylight still) so the sunsets are awesome.  Plus when that golden light hits the lake, the trout go nuts.  If I knew there were hardly going to be any mosquitos, I'd have brought my fishing pole out tonight.

I'm not ready for winter.  The rains should start any day now and run into September, and any point from mid September on, we can get our first sprinkling of snow.  It won't stick till October sometime, BUT...  This year has gone by way too fast, and I've done fuckall.

Gorgeous place and great photos!

Winter will most likely offer some great photo opportunities.

If photography is really one of your hobbies I suggest you getting a 360 degrees camera and a drone with a good camera.  This location will get you some awesome images using these other tools.

Cheers!

The lakes are Corps of Engineers property, so as far as I know, drones aren't kosher. I'd have to call around and check. Either way, a drone is in my future, but a ways off since I have no funds for it. Next purchase is going to a full frame camera and that's going to hurt. Especially since I have $0 income currently. So it'll be a while

These lakes are probably one one of my favorite aurora watching spots since I was a kid as well. Crossing my fingers for a good show this winter.

Mostly it's been recovering from insurance cutting off and restarting a med I'm never supposed to go off of. My regular doc and specialist were rather pissed, since it could have killed me.

So im starting that med again plus some other tweaks to others, prepping for my next Seattle trip, etc. About passed out in PT yesterday with my BP being really high, so I'm waiting to hear from the doc on that lol.

So its been insane, but I'm too damn stubborn to give up.

Honestly, I think it's my new favorite for photos this summer. The guy fishing just makes it work IMO.

Amento that!

Well done NP!

If it wasn't for the cold, cost of living, the cold, mosquitos and the cold, AK would be a great place to retire!  But it's just too damn cold!

Friend of mine was up at Ft Greely several years working on the GMD program there.

He showed us a pic of his rented truck themrometer: it showed it as -40 degrees F.  It showed -40 only because that was as low as it would go!  It was actually in the high -50's, low -60's at the time.  They shut down outside field missile field work around -35 or so with winds due to safety concerns.  He was just out tooling around for fun.

Yea, fuck that!

I freeze my ass off when it gets around 30 around here.  Yep, you heard right:  that's a positive number.  Weird, I know.....

Eh, it's an acquired thing.  The coldest I can remember as an adult was -78f at my house in probably the lowest elevation part of town.  Sold it after that, since the heating bill was obscene for that winter.  It's been really warm the last few winters though.  I honestly don't think it's gotten colder than -35 in a while.

Either way, this is probably my last winter up here so I'm wanting to take as many photos as I can between now and then.  Gotta leave for my health.

It's been -30 at my place a few times and routinely -20 in winter.  I go outside with gloves a hat and a sweatshirt to shovel snow and I get hot!.  Your just not working hard enough ;)

Two from tonight.  I was playing around a bit with it, trying different stuff I learned at a photography lecture earlier tonight.
