It’s tough not to feel a little pessimistic as a Stars fan. It really feels like we mortgaged our future a few years ago for cup that didn’t happen. I’ll ask the amateur GMs if you would make the following trade: Mikko Rantanen in exchange for: Logan Stankoven (16 points in the last playoffs, 44 last season) Mavrik Bourque (41 points last season) Probably Jason Robertson (96 points last season) 2026 1st round pick 2028 1st round pick I would guess most here would say no. I’m not hating on Mikko. I think he’s a great player but I’m starting to think that this trade (and it’s downstream consequences) were not in our favor. Regardless, go Stars. |

Offer sheets make sense in the NHL because draft picks (even 1st round) aren't guaranteed NHL players and are likely years away even when they are. The reason that they aren't used much is that GMs don't want it used against them, so most avoid doing it to other teams. Most offers are also matched by the team anyways, so they only result in inflating contracts. If offer sheets become commonplace (2 this year), it could definitely have serious implications on how teams are built. Getting offer sheeted sucks for a team because it forces them to choose between losing a player that they drafted and developed or getting saddled with an inflated contract with terms often designed to make it hard for that team to match for a player that wants to play for a different team. |

This is more of a local thing. But I havnt listened to sports radio in a while and I guess one of the producers (and huge Wings fan) passed away at 32 a couple weeks ago. As one of the few who talked hockey on the air its sad all the way around. RIP. |
