You did well. $20k for 7.5 years is a great value. Other cars you could have bought in 2019 that would be worth $20k less today are things like an Audi A4, top of the line Camry or Accord, Chevy Volt or basically any American made SUV. Heaven help you if you’d bought a luxury SUV, Tesla Model S, 7 series, E class or the like, you’d have lost 3x+ as much. Porsches may be expensive but they don’t cost you a lot. |

I am definitely amazed at how well the 911 kept its value! Also amazing is that in seven and a half years of driving the car three to four times a week (mostly work and back, as well as grocery stores and other chores), exactly TWO things have needed to be repaired/replaced. One was the windshield wiper sprinkler line. It's apparently not uncommon for it to eventually break at the point where it bends every time the frunk is opened, and considering that I'd open and close the frunk at least twice every time I drove the car (to work, or to stores) - it was cycled literally thousands of times. The repair was simple. I ordered a new Porsche part online (for about $30), and it took less than 45 minutes to replace myself. The second one was the the struts that hold up the engine lid. Apparently that's also super-common. Again, I ordered replacement Porsche parts online, and it took 10 minutes to do myself. Other than that, NOTHING has broken on this car. Just basic (recommended) maintenance. It's still on the original battery. The only wear items I have replaced are the tires. The summer tires are soft rubber, and so they wear quickly (especially since I drove during the winter). That blows my mind. A super-complicated and high performance over-engineered German car. I drove it for seven and a half years multiple times a week ... and pretty much nothing needed repair. Amazing! ETA: This is the replacement vehicle that we will be taking to Hawaii. Toyota Land Cruiser.

So, I'm near a local Porsche dealer last week and figure I'd pop in and buy an oil filter. Am I crazy? $110 for a 992.1 oil filter. Did they mis-price this filter? I later see on-line, list price is like $60 or something. Do other dealers just have huge mark ups on parts? |
