I had that one, too. Lot of great accessories in that set.

There were 2 that I wanted as a kid. First a Big Wheel /Green Machine and a freaking Big Traxx. Never got the Big Wheel or Green Machine. My younger brother somehow got the Big Traxx. We are both in are 50’s now,  And occasionally he will break out the Big Traxx and we will play with it like the kids we are.ju

I got this one year. It was awesome. Somehow it survived my childhood.

The one my brother and I always wanted was a big trampoline.  My dad didn't want to get us one because he thought it would kill the grass underneath.  Eventually he got one for my brother, when I was in college.  It didn't kill the grass, and in fact the grass grew more underneath than it otherwise would have.  Thanks dad!

I had about 75% of that one, as a hand-me-down from my dad.

It wasn't the radioactive materials that worried my parents. It was just rediculously expensive.
I did get a chemistry set, though.

I watched a YouTube video about that thing. It's price equivalent today is like $500 or something.

My and my brother got those for Christmas one year.  We were playing in the tile hallway and one made it to the carpet trim piece and it jumped up and bloodied my nose.

GI Joe Aircraft Carrier

(old man voice), in my day, we had the 12" Joes. A scale Aircraft Carrier, had it existed, would have taken up the whole back yard.

Between me and my younger cousin, we got a lot of stuff for the 12" figures. GI Joe, 6 million dollar man, Johnny West, and something else that was an attempt at a Joe knockoff.
Little stuff would get lost. Weapons, ammo boxes, first aid kits, etc. There used to be a bag of such things available at the dimestore, I think for $1.00. That was resupply.

I had the command center and the helicopter early on, probably the biggest things offered.

I wanted one of these Johnny Eagle sets in the worst way! As much as Ralphie wanted his Red Ryder BB gun. Unlike Ralphie, I never got it.

Meh, best one is the one you build in the back yard with bricks, clay and mud, then populate with firecrackers and jumping-jacks.

My parents got me one, mostly complete, from a garage sale. It was awesome. Unfortunately it’s long gone or I’d pass it on to my son.

The best part was most of the soldiers were unique and actually useful, unlike the usual pack with a minesweeper, RTO, bayonetter, and guy with binos, per every rifleman.

Never got the USS Flagg though.

I had one. Germans took an ass beating daily for months.

Eventually the cannons broke off their mounts and were lost. I lost much of the other stuff dragging it into the woods for more realistic play. Favorite guys were the machine gun on bipod guys lying prone. I actually know where one is at in an antique store. I saw it last month.

I did all that. Made buildings from cardboard boxes with different floor levels etc etc..  but I never got the Navarone playset.

Anyone recall how much these were in the '80s?  I'm guessing at least $150...

eta: note the 'fine-print'  you didn't see that as a kid

and there was a plastic model kit (?) of Normandy / D-day (?)  I can't seem to find anything on-line

I was a huge connoisseur of comic books back in the 70's and all those ads kept a young boy wanting quite a bit.

Oh man. I ordered a set of those. Ended up shooting a bunch with my bb-gun and then .22.

The biggest disappointment I had from comics was the hovercraft I ordered!

Mini bike.  Parents never would buy me one, Dad said "if you want one, you build one."

So I did.  Scrounged up a rusty old frame somewhere, sanded and painted.  Swapped something for an old worn out lawnmower engine.  Picked up other pieces here and there, mowed lawns, raked leaves, was down to needing only the centrifugal clutch and chain, so was picking up and returning coke bottles at a nickel apiece to come up with the money.  Somehow, mysteriously, clutch and chain showed up in the mail, all by itself.

Dad passed away six weeks ago.  Never did own up to ordering that clutch and chain.

In 1971 (I think), my Mom married my dumbass Step-dad. I got the whole Major Matt set including the cool Space Crawler. A week later for some reason, they said to box it all up and they returned it to the store. I still hate my parents and their both dead.

Used to have a lot of full size GI Joes as well as that Navarone playset growing up. My dad used to buy toys for us at flea markets. New in the box for less than half of what you would find in the store.

My cousins had the Navaronne set. I’d team up with the younger cousin and go against his older brother. We’d be the Germans in the fort. We all set up the army men and once done, got handfuls of rubber bands and battled, picking off each other’s men. The older cousin always won, but that was always a highlight of visiting.

We were poor and my dad didn't especially like for us to be happy.  So I never got any of the cool toys.   So I see that stuff now and basically resent it for what it means to me.  You never see me on here longing for my childhood.  But at least I wasn't a spoiled little bitch that ruined my life on drugs.  I always felt like I had things to make up for.
