Testing Ted Kaczynski’s Personal Pipe Pistol

Did a search for Unabomber. So here we go...

For the TLDW crowd. It seems Ted Kaczynski made his own 22LR pistol out of a Crossman 22 pump action air gun, some chunks of wood and abandoned car parts. The intention behind this thing was murder, though it does not appear to have been used for that purpose.

Kaczynski also attempted to make a suppressor for this thing. But it didn't work as well as expected and was never entered into evidence by the FBI.

Enjoy while you can, this probably isn't going to be on YouTube for too long.

Boomer checking in re: home-made guns.

There was an urban legend in the 1960s & 1970s “zip guns” were federal felony level illegal.

Dick Tracy comics even featured “Crime Stopper textbook” series on how to report zip guns to local cops so FBI can get involved, because “gangs & organized crime…”

Just like the Italian switchblades in the 1950s.

And quicksand….

ETA: for a genius—it sure was good that Ted sucked with any basic chemistry knowledge or he could have killed way more people.  Way more people.

Funny how that works. Walter White may have been a fictional character but he had a WAY higher body count.

Looks overly cumbersome and complicated for a non repeating single shot that doesnt even have extractor or ejector.

You can see his cabin at the FBI museum, along with the Boston bomber’s boat.

Which is weird they'd make a trophy of it when the whole thing should embarrass them. They hunted him for how many years and were only able to catch him because his brother in law dimed him out?

Considering he was a genius Luddite with no digital trail, it’s amazing he was caught.

I used to work with a retired Israeli colonel who said that when they were hunting suicide bombers during the Intifada, they were only successful when some random Palestinian would walk in to IDF command and told them that his neighbor Ahmed was acting strangely.

If I hunted some trophy buck for 2 decades(pretend they live that long), spending every effort going in the wrong direction I wouldnt mount it's head on my wall as a trophy if I only bagged it because my neighbor happened to find it tangled in a volleyball net and called me.

Oh I don't know, I'm not much of a hunter but I might. At the least it makes for an amusing story.

I would want to display it with some of the aforementioned net in its horns.

I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many genius-level people I met/know of, complete with PhDs, who couldn't/can't figure out how to make their microwave stop blinking 12:00

Just because you can plot a trajectory to Mars and land on a 4 square meter piece of the planet after being launched from Earth without using any more fuel on the trip, doesn't necessarily translate into practical living matters

Yep, genius level brainpower doesn't always translate to other fields. Or sometimes even to what could be called common sense.

I think there's a quote on that which goes something like. "An idea so utterly deranged that only an intellectual could believe it."

Ok you're right Im wrong. That was a bad analogy that would be funny and now that I look at it like that I'd probably mount it too.

As far as i know, it is still totally legal to build such homemade firearms.

I remember, like ten years back, there was this young guy with a YT channel who would build homemade pistols and long guns. All made using regular tools. "Royalnunsuch" or something like that. The commies at YT eventually erased his whole channel.

The kid had many clever ideas in his builds. He most definitely should have made it to an engineering school.

It's funny in hindsight. Folks made a big deal about the dinky Unibomber cabin back then, but now there's a giant "tiny house" movement. Hundreds of YT channels and many TV shows.
