Yeah it was always fun running up to the back of one in the summer in Lejeune or Okinawa and having that blast of heat hit you the face in 100 degree weather. |

The current “pad” is just 3 small pads laid out to fit the sea king landing gear. It was done like that on purpose to be inconspicuous, its only purpose is to stop the wheels from leaving impressions in the grass. As a side benefit it ensures the chopper is always in the correct location and orientation every time it lands for safety and security purposes. The fairings above the main gear are filled with stuff. One side is the APU and the other side is other stuff. I would bet all my money that the president will never ride in a v22 or any other chopper than a sea king, Blackhawk, or s92 from hmx1. I think a helipad is lame. Anybody can build a helipad, it takes actual skill and thought to land a chopper in the same spot on grass without killing the perfectly maintained grass. It’s more elegant and harder to do, thus more exclusive.

There were other tests as well including ensuring water shedding, etc. I'm sure there are people here who know far more about than I ever will who could better address it. |

Landing in the grass has never made sense to me. We’ve spent way more on way less, regardless of how it’s getting “paid for”. I think it’s long past over do to update some of these things. It’s about time a few things get modernized. Crazy how much of our shit is getting old. Not just talking about bridges and roads. Even infrastructure to deal with the president is pretty odd that you think about it. Think about how old the helicopters are. Look how the aircraft are. It’s all old shit. I know they’re working on updating that but umpteen years later a billions over budget shit still ain’t done. Our Commander Chief does do some wtf sometimes, but he is definitely a get er done kind of guy, even if people don’t like the means of how it gets done. |

Maybe through technology in these platforms they can have some mini lessons that’s easily digestible that people can get an ounce of financial literacy early in the game of life. Voted for the man three times (would do it again given the circumstances of choices) and I’ve been one of his biggest critics for some of the stupidity has been engaged in. Kids retirement accounts in the first year of life may be one of the very best things that ever gets done in this country. A legit way to move the needle on the future. A way to grow an inflation protect the money. A concept that seems so foreign in DC for a very long time. |

Now that I think about it I'm kinda surprised there is not already a dedicated, full sized hard material pad there. IMHO if the White House can control themselves and keep the gold out of it , it's sure gonna look nice in granite with the Seal. Another example of President Trump leaving something in much better condition than he found it.
