Another 6 figure SUV that requires an annual 5 figure budget to maintenance it.

I'd rather have a Mercedes.

No way it would be 6 figures. It would probably cost about the same as the Volvo XC 90 like the article suggests, ~$60k

I could care less about that.  I want the Amorak!  The Taureg based, diesel powered pickup!

Starting price.  Check out the sticker on an old 2007 Touareg V10 TDi.  VW's top of the line stuff isn't cheap.

Yeah, like we haven't been demanding a Hilux for 30 years.

Well, us Americans typically drastically overestimate what we need out of a vehicle....

At least we have the Tacoma. I have only been in a Hilux a few times, but they feel basically the same in build quality.

They should have never pussified the touareg. the first gen with locking diffs, air suspension, on board air are fucking bad ass (and woefully underutilized, except mine, which I beat the shit out of)

the current touareg got rid of the locking diffs for a 8 speed that uses a torsen differential, no more low or locking diffs... the v6 tdi is fantastic but its just.. lame for offroad stuff.

yeah, let me tell you, you got a lot of vehicle for that money.

that one is fully loaded, I'm not seeing a missing option. considering its competition is the Range Rover I'd say the price is fair, they started about 10k more for the base model.
