First album I ever bought with my own money. I was 13, mowed lawns around the neighborhood to get the cash.
Then I was disappointed when I found out that "One" was on another album. |

The black album sucks and is when Metallica started to decline. Actually AJFA was the start of the decline but at least it wasn't as bad at the black album.

Got it for Christmas that year. Must have listened to it 30 times on the drive from Dallas to Durango.

My least favorite Album from them......Black should signify when they decided to sell out, and make shitty metal.

One of the greatest albums ever, definately Metallics best album.

Great album, but I've gotten so burned out on Enter Sandman and The Unforgiven that if I never hear them again it will be too soon.
Master of Puppets was more betterer IMO. |

I remember after the black album came out, overhearing someone say "Turn that shit off and play some Metallica!" while "Ride the Lightning" was in the cassette player. Megadeth is a far more talented band anyway. |

Black was ok.
Their load should have dried before being released. I saw them a half dozen times back in the 90's. I wish I could have seen them in the 80's. When they were still pissed. |

Well this thread didn't go how the OP thought it would!
I love this album. I guess I'm in the minority. And jayz is a dick faced faggot. Death to all but metal! |
|
I think it was their best and I still hold the previous albums in high regards as well.
In my mind, I liked every single song contrast to most or a few off the previous ones and the creativity was on the pinnacle of their talent while holding true to their style before they moved on to Load and beyond which was a shift in pace and style from that of the old. Did they have the best songs in the album? Comparing them to JFA, RTL, Battery, etc I'd say no. But as an album which takes into account all the songs, it was their best IMO Just my opinion anyhow. |
|
Ya, that's what I said, "death to all butt metal!" |

The black album has sold more then all their previous albums combined. Same with later albums. It is their greatest album because they moved away from the same cookie cutter thrash metal nothing but lead guitar and drums sound. |

I'm old enough to remember when Fade to Black was a sign of the decline of Metallica. Metallica has always been thus. I'll pull out The Black Album for a listen later today and then plug my Gibson Explorer with Hetfield EMGs into my Mesa and see if I can remember Enter Sandman. |
