just said this:
The following update will be emailed to all our customers: MANY M1 GARAND OPTIONS – SOLD OUT. As most of our customers and competitors know, this year has seen has seen a nationwide unprecedented purchasing of firearms and ammunition. The panic buying, along with the increased popularity of the M1 Garand has impacted significantly on the CMP. Our store racks are bare and our M1 Garand ready to ship inventory of several grades and manufacturers has been wiped out and the waiting list (backorders) for some items exceeds 2,000 orders. As a result, we have stopped accepting orders for several grades and manufacturers. Please see http://www.odcmp.com/Sales/m1garand.htm for additional information. Several years ago CMP received a large quantity of M1 Garand rifles from the U.S. Army. People generally assume that these were complete rifles, already packed and ready to ship. That is not the case. The "rifle" may be a stripped receiver, welded rifle, barreled receiver, complete rifle, used, unused, or even a lump of metal with a tag on it saying that this was serial number xxxxx destroyed in a fire. We still have thousands of these uninspected rifles in storage. The rifles are stored in unopened crates in several warehouses. We work (inspect, repair as needed, and grade) these rifles one crate at a time. Until we work a crate, we do not know what manufacturer we will find or how the rifle will grade. The item with the largest amount of backorders is RM1HRAS, Harrington and Richardson Arms (HRA) Service Grade M1 Garand. Our serial number records show that we have significantly more HRA serial numbers than any other manufacturer, which is why we are still taking orders for this option. We do find 10-20 M1 Garands manufactured by Springfield Armory (SA) each week. We are not finding enough of these SA to again begin accepting orders for them, but as we do find SA M1 Garands, we are contacting customers on the RM1HRAS list to see if they would accept the SA as a substitute, since pricing is the same for both. We work the oldest orders first and are now contacting a few customers whose orders were received in Mar, 2013. We request that customers not contact us requesting a change, but wait till we contact them, since we will give the opportunity to change first to oldest orders. AGUILA .22 CAL AMMO: This week we received an unexpected 300 cases of Aguila 419ASVGE and 400 cases of Aguila 419ASVSE. Oldest orders for these two items will be processed next week. This will still leave 5,460 open orders for the standard velocity 419ASVSE and 309 orders for Golden Eagle 419ASVGE. The next shipment is expected in October, 2013. Orest how many of you from this thread actually followed through? pickings are getting slim, gentlemen better pop those thumbs out of your asses and get a garand if you ever intend on it... |
| Jeez, I thought these would be available practically forever. Guess not. Maybe I should order an HRA and just wait however long it takes. But, it sounds like you are going to have to haunt gun shows if you ever expect to get one each of the four M1 manufacturers. |

Picked up a 1903a3 from them about 10 years ago. Out of the box it was one of the nicest rifles I've ever seen. The parkerizing was perfect grey all the way around and the wood was super nice, almost no imperfections. Wish I would have gotten a 1903 and a M1917 from them as well, that boat has sailed |

Is a Service Grade considered a good looking shooter ........ or just a shooter?
edit: nvm lol http://www.odcmp.com/Sales/m1garand.htm SERVICE GRADE: (Good to Very Good) Service Grade Rifles show less wear and better appearance than Field or Rack Grades. Good to very good condition. Rifle wear will be exhibited by worn and mixed colors of the parkerized finish. There may be some minor pitting on the metal parts. Wood will be either Walnut, Birch, Beech or other variety and will be basically sound but may have minor hairline cracks, dings, scratches and gouges. Wood may not match in color or type of wood. Wood may be of new production on Service Grade Garands. Bores will be generally good with only minor imperfections. The barrel crown may be nicked, but the muzzle will gauge "3 or less" and the throat erosion will gauge less than 5. |

Is a Service Grade considered a good looking shooter ........ or just a shooter? Luck of the draw. I have a SA service grade that looks great but has a barrel with a lot of wear. I also have an HRA service grade with a decent but not pretty stock that has a great barrel. |
| Rifle sales have never been the end game for the CMP, merely a funding source to build an endowment fund to fund operations once rifles, ammo etc are sold out. Orest, the CEO of the CMP has stated that the CMP will eventually get into the repair/restoration/modification business, but its still a ways off. |

You will. You should spend some time on the CMP forums. The CMP has a couple thousand carbines it plans to sell after the release of the IHC garands, most likely in 2014 Quoted:

What is the plan for the CMP when they sell out? Kind of sucks to think that the .gov will then officially be out of the marksmanship encouragement business. At the end of the day, programs like the CMP are incredibly cheap mobilization insurance. If the .gov liberal scumbags would let them import from Korea, there would be more. And, from what I understand, the CMP is not .gov. |
I was at the CMP store in Port Clinton Tuesday. It was way more picked over than it was the last time I was there 2 years ago. They did still have rifles for sale in multiple grades and manufacturers though. Sadly, Tues, like 2 years ago, my gun fund was depleted and no Garand for me ![]() |

One of the guys on the Oklahoma HTF ordered his in April, he got it in 92 days, I ordered mine exactly two weeks later, I'm now at 95 days and haven't heard a thing, so I don't know what's going on. We both ordered HRA Service Grade. Them saying they are contacting people who ordered in March, but at least some of the people who ordered in April already have theirs? Makes no sense. |

Better make sure you secure a bayonet for it as well. Have my grandfather's bayo he brought back from the war. Soooooo glad I ordered the Springfield when I did in January! It's a great gun, made right at the end of WWII. It was my only true Panic Buy during the Great Panic, and it was because of CMP saying 'zomg, about to run out of Springfields'. |
|
I ordered back in January. It was the service grade H&R. In April via email, I was told it would ship in May. I am still waiting, when I followed up with a phone call Monday, they said they had no idea when it would ship. Told me to just "be patient". Bunch of BS on their part.
From the CMP The order # is 459415. The item you requested is currently on backorder while the armorers are getting more rifles ready to ship out. You will receive an email as soon as the order is processed completely and shipped. |

Glad I got mine this year, then. ETA: Mine's an H/R only 11 more to go before you have to buy just receivers and barreled receivers... Your thread from last year finally got me off my ass to order one. Thanks for looking out. |

Great program, I hope it continues well into the future...even if the chances of getting M4 and M16 lowers in the future seems slim.
My "hope" is that the gov't will go so bankrupt that it will suspend/abolish the NFA and release surplus/Class III stuff because they need the money so bad. A guy can dream... |
