Doing some prototyping for some PCBs I designed, and I'm gonna burn up some (what would otherwise be) expensive ICs.

Is there a Digikey of Chinese electronics components? Or just Aliexpress/BangGood/Ebay?

What types of ICs?

This is probably not what you're looking for, but I got an interesting assortment of parts (both active and passive) called the 'OPL' (Open Parts Library) from Seeed Studio:

Open Parts Library

They're not really like DigiKey or Mouser, though.

Right now, mostly MAX485s and MAX2719s.

OK - I don't have an answer for those...

Last year I was working on some circuit ideas based around the MAX485, and I discovered some pin-compatible devices that had greater fanout capabilities (but for the moment I've forgotten the manufacturer and part number - maybe it was Intersil?)

I took a look on Octopart for the MAX485, but all of the suppliers shown there appeared to be US ones:  https://octopart.com/search?q=max485

For other types of parts (SMD LEDs, passive components) I've had good success with eBay, with relatively quick shipping from China (the estimated shipping times typically are for the 'slow boat', but I've been pleasantly surprised a number of times to receive the packages much more quickly than advertised).

But there's always the possibility of getting counterfeit garbage that way (although so far I have not had any such problems) - the risk might be greater with ICs than it is with cheap passive parts.

Try www.mouser.com and www.jameco.com

That isn't what I asked for. When I'm looking for quality components, I look at DigiKey, Mouser, Jameco as the first three stops.

I've always had good luck at getting em on ebay. They are likely replicas, but I was looking for something that might have a catalog, versus random searches. Usually out of a 10 dollar 25pc Chinese batch of MAX485s, I'll have about 5 that are DOA.

I do PCB layout for a living and tomorrow I can ask the assembly side of the group who they use.  We have an office in China that they manage so I would assume they do source Chinese parts on occasion.

Awesome, thanks! I'm a mechanical guy, just dabbling in the magic side.

Has anyone found a dirt cheap source for wires? I'm looking for some cheap 2 and 3 conductor twisted stranded cables. (3 conductor for RS485 bus, slightly larger gauge 3 conductor for 5V/GND/12V, and lots of 2 conductor TSP for hookups.)
