The Lady Chablis, the transgender performer who became an unlikely celebrity for her role in the 1994 best-seller Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, died Thursday in Savannah. She was 59. http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/books/2016/09/08/first-transgender-star-lady-chablis-dies-59/90093036/ |

I met him/her in about 1995 after going to the show at Club One with a bunch of my friends and their wives. My crew chief's mom was a big fan of the book and he wanted to get an autographed picture for her so we hung around after the show and talked to her for a few minutes.
She was very nice and offered me an autographed picture as well. I had never read the book and had no real idea who she was and didn't really care but took it anyway and I think I still have it somewhere. She was personable and the show was a surprisingly good time. |

I had to ask a coworker what she was famous for.
