When is hollyweird goi g to make another movie that changes thungs like the original matrix?

Dark City
Moon
Truman Show

Plenty of others...

All depends on what you're looking for specifically.

Dark City is not the latest or necessarily best of the genre, but it's earlier than the Matrix and is far superior.

Also look into Knowing, which is a more recent, yet also phenomenal and game changing, science fiction movie.  It's about a different subject than the allegory of the cave, but is no less philosophical and thrilling.

What sort of change do you mean?

Dark City is easily the closest movie to The Matrix.  The Matrix was partially based on it, and even filmed on some of the same sets.

Highly recommended.  Do *strongly* suggest the Directors Cut.

I think the closest film in the last few years to do so would be Inception. An argument can be made that Avatar has had the most lasting impact of recent films, but I'd have to say if so, it isn't for the better.

I'll agree that Knowing was a great film, but it hasn't really had as much of an impact as it should have. Same goes for Book of Eli.

Strangely enough, all of those, including The Matrix, all came out very closely to each other.

Moon was more recent, and I'm hesitant about suggesting it, but I think on reflection it does count.  Can't really argue why without massively spoiling it.

I'd initially considered Knowing, but it doesn't quite seem to count, even though it gets extremely close.  The subjects in both it and The Matrix are ignorant of the true nature of the world, but it's not a deliberately intended ignorance in the case of Knowing.  Damned good movie, though.

I'll toss another suggestion out there.

Bet none of you have seen that one.  It was a TNT movie in the 90's, and one of the more fun westerns I've ever seen.

I'll spoil it since you'll probably never see it.  A kid joins a band of outlaws but isn't fond of the lifestyle or actions.  The band of outlaws robs a bank and escapes into some hills and through a cave, and comes out into a town of pacifists.  The pacifists turn out to be old famous gunslingers (the sheriff is Wild Bill Hickock, played by Sam Shepard), who have died and are in purgatory, where they have to avoid violence for 10 years or something or be condemned to hell.

When the band of outlaws assumes that they're religious pacifists, the band tries to take advantage of them and attack the town.  The kid stands up to them, and the sheriff and the other dead gunslingers put their guns on and help him out, assuming that they're going to hell for it.

Honestly one of the better TV movies I've ever seen, if you get a chance to rent it or netflix it, do so.

Read a William Gibson novel instead.

Start with "Neuromancer".

The Matrix is also quite guilty of stealing from "Overdrawn at the memory bank"

Are public school showing movies instead of teaching these days?

Wether you like it's overall message or not I think Avatar was the game changer you were looking for.  With the idea of a blockbuster like that using 3D and the new technologies and techniques that were used in making it there it is.

Agreed.  Like Avatar, The Matrix has nothing new in terms of story structure, but there was a big leap in technological advancement.
