Offspring is alright, but I do enjoy Dexter Holland's hot sauce. Gringo Bandito. "I hope you enjoy the adventurous flavor and tingling tantalization of my not-so-famous pepper sauce. For over two years I have searched far and wide for the perfect combination of spices to make your next dining experience a zinger. And I tried to make it easy on the pooper, too. Try it on tacos, burritos, eggs, pizza - it's like a party in your mouth. I personally guarantee it."- Dexter Holland |

I remember buying the "Smash" album when I was about 13 years old. Still one of my favorites. I really like how they can have some goofy songs and some serious songs on the same album. I've always liked their sound. This ... I thought they were kind of a semi jokey band at first until they released Gone Away....love that tune. I picked up "Ixnay..." after this and loved it. |

One of my all time faves. Dexter is a smart dude too. Doesn't he have a doctorate? He was going for one, but I thought I had heard that he didn't bother finishing. Great band! ETA: According to Wiki, he dropped out for a while but is back pursuing it again: Holland then attended the University of Southern California, where he earned a B.S. in Biology and a M.S. in Molecular Biology and commenced a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology. After the success of The Offspring, he suspended his candidature to focus on music. Holland has said that, at 40 years of age, he would rather be a professor at a university than playing music. As of 2013, Holland is a doctoral student at the Laboratory of Viral Oncology and Proteomics Research, Keck School of Medicine, where he supervised by Professor Suraiya Rasheed. In March 2013, Holland and co-authors published a paper in PLoS One regarding microRNA in HIV genomes, titled "Identification of Human MicroRNA-Like Sequences Embedded within the Protein-Encoding Genes of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus". The original research paper describes the use of computational molecular biological (in silico) approaches to identify microRNA-like sequences in HIV. These sequences are suggested to have evolved to self-regulate survival of the virus in the host by evading its immune responses and thus influence the persistence, replication, and pathogenicity of HIV. |
