For the most part, the Pope has not changed one bit of Catholic teaching. That said, he is more pastoral than academic, and many things he has said have been taken out of context.
In this situation, I don't know were just war theory will play out. In theory, he could discuss it-but honestly at this point it is wasted breath. If we are attacked, we can defend ourselves. If an alley is attacked, we can defend them. The only real question is what warrants an attack that can be defended against. I don't think the bullet has to hit flesh before you can react, nor does a nuke need to explode above a friendly city. --- The leader of the largest religious group on the world should be expected to speak on subject of faith and morals. |
| No doubt many of us would fall. But who are we? We have no names, no family, everyone one of us is poor, powerless, and yet together we can overthrow an empire. |

Technically the Catholic economic position is distributism.
In communism, the means of production are owned by the Goverment and controlled by the elite. In evolved capitalism, the means of production are owned by mega corporations and controlled by the elite (who also control the Goverment). The two are different sides of the same coin. The Catholic position is that means of production and control of the Goverment should be as close to the people as possible-it ends up being little c capitalism and close to what we would call a republic form of Goverment (if it can be handled at the family level, handle it there, if not at the community level, if not at the district level, etc... Anyway, it is pretty much the exact opposite of both communism and evolved capitalism. He problem we have with the current Pope is that he is the product of living in a democracy that was corrupted by the elite-which was functionally the same as a communistic system. |
