What happens when the jihadis/Fremen figure out that it is much easier to blow up pipelines than it is to defend them, and just start targeting those? I don't think economic chaos will hurt a bunch of 12th Century types like it would Fatty McRascal at Walmart.

Between Qaddafi attacking his own refineries, and the jihadis in Iraq hitting the pipeline to Turkey today, it's getting a little Dune-y up in here, y'all.

They who can destroy a thing control it, or so it is said. Just something to think about.

One would imagine that if they did that, they would rapidly find themselves without a sympathetic Islamofascist state regime to hide behind.

Why be the victor without any spoils?

Not everybody is fighting for Allah.  Islam just helps with keeping the population in line.

Agreed - but there is probably a substantial minority of the Tusken Raiders who would take that step. I just wonder why it hasn't happened often, much as I wonder why we haven't suffered more Sudden Jihad over here at home... guns and SUV's are both widely available here.

It's not that simple, because they have no or not enough arable land to support their population. (Egypt being one partial exception with the Nile basin...)

The sandbox countries with oil import LOTS of food, and also do other crazily expensive things like the direct desalinization of sea water, like some places in Saudi Arabia do. And their populations are now HUGE and relatively urbanized, as compared to pre WWII. Can you say "Rats in a cage"?

OPEC/Middle East says: "HEY INFIDEL AMERICA... YOU WANT SOME OIL?"

America says: "HEY ARABS/ISLAM/MIDDLE EAST... YOU WANNA EAT?"

OPEC/Middle East says:

It's what COULD have happened in the 1970's, but Carter and the libtards did not have the stones, nor does the current administration now. And it's what will happen if the world/oil economy goes tits-up even if we don't do so in retribution. No oil... no food for them. Even if they don't get a lot of food from us directly, it's just like the oil situation in reverse. Even if we get most of our oil from Canada/Mexico and Western hemisphere sources, a disruption in the Middle East supply is going to send world market prices soaring.

Same with food.

Granted, we have that problem internally just with our farms, and trucks/trains on the interstate. But in a total TEOTAWAKI, I think we could easily keep the U.S. fed while the world (Especially the dry parts) starved.
