I'm not a *insert American auto-company here* guy...
I get asked a lot by guys(when talking about trucks) if I'm a Ford, Chevy, or Dodge guy. When I explain to them that I don't really give a shit who makes it... a good truck is a good truck, a shit truck is a shit truck.. I get looks like I've got a penis growing out of my forehead. The overall vibe I get is that, unless you hold allegiance to a truck manufacturer in some way or another, you're not "manly." Is this common? Did I miss a man-law somewhere? I read the fucking rulebook cover to cover...
Guy 1: "I'm a Ford guy myself, Chevy's are gay... well Chevy trucks are anyways." Guy 2: "Fuck that, Fords fucking suck, Chevy is where it's at, what about you Towely?" Towely: "Don't make no difference to me... I don't own a truck or plan on buying one anytime soon but I don't care what badge it's got as long as it runs good." Guy 1 or 2 or both: "What!? Are you gay or something?" Towely: "Cause I don't own a truck?" Guy 1: "Haha, no, I don't own one yet either but you don't even have a preference?" Towely: "Not really.. guess I'm a flamer, have fun buying your Ford and driving it to the mall and starbucks, and I'll keep driving my Corsica up north to go hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking..." |

I drive a Chevy (car) because some deadbeat couldn't make payments and the CU sold it to me cheap when I came in asking about car loans. I don't give a shit if it has an oval/goat/bowtie/whatever on the grill if it's $2k under blue book.
Some day I want a truck to haul shit around with, and as long as it's got an 8' bed without too much rust I won't really give a shit either. |

yeah, you think toyota could squeeze more than 19-20 mpg out of a v6 truck on the highway??? you'd be wrong! (at least in the states) Hell I would be happy with 19-20 mpg...my Nissan gets 16.2 in the winter, and 17.5 in the summer. It does not matter if I am on the highway, or tearing around some corn fields. |

I have owned all sorts of vehicles. Toyota trucks (I am very partial too) fords, chevys, Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth, 2 Porsches (old 944 and a 944 Turbo) a 76 Cadillac, Mazda car and truck.... Right now I am rocking an 02 Subaru ForesterI paid $2,000 for. Doesn't really matter the manufacturer, what matters is how well it is taken care of and if it does what you want it to do. That Subaru is a 5spd and is getting around 24-26 around town and averages about 32mpg on the highway. I change the oil religiously, change the diff fluid and trans fluid on a schedule, clean the airfilter and swapped the plugs 2 times and new tires once in the 68,000 miles I have put on it in 2 years. I take care of it and treat it well. I have done the same for MOST of my cars. All that being said, I see alot of the brand specific bullsh*t with the immature un educated crowd. I am a big Mopar fan. I love the older Mopar muscle cars. I like the Fords and Chevies too, I think the Mopars were better looking cars. That is my opinion. I don't see a need to go shoving it down anyone's throat. I currently have a Plymouth Duster in my garage, because I like those old A bodies. I would kill to get my hands on an old Shelby Cobra..... My uncle has a gorgeous 66 Chevelle SS we take to car shows when I am home on leave. All of the old cars are cool. Most of the old timers bust balls with brand rivalry, its fun. Now adays, its the diesels most people are all up in arms about. I have owned a Cummins, and driven plenty of Powerstrokes and Duramaxes. Personally, I like the Cummins raw power, but prefer the quiet of a Duramax. I think the Dodge bodies and drivetrain could be better. The Chevys are getting too damned complicated with the dealer only brake parts and such. The Fords have good bodies but their front ends fall apart (my 99 F250 almost drove me broke replacing ball joints and tie rod ends) its all a gamble. IMO buy what suits you and screw the brand rivalry crap. If Toyota puts a diesel in the Tundra, that will be my next ride. (only after they are used for about 10 years and I can afford one) |
No brand loyalties though.
