Quick summary
Guy bought a gun at LGS, LGS thought the patent was serial, guy brought it home saw a painted area and realized no serial number and that the paint was covering scratched off serial. he then brought back to gun shop and got refund and they contacted atf to see if they can find who sold it to them. |

| So my question in regards to that thread is whether the OP could have gotten into trouble for that or not? He brought it back once he realized and he was not the one who defaced the firearm. On the other hand, I do understand that he bought it and was in possession. |

No court or da would ever push charges based on that. Now if he saw it and left it in his closet for a week while thinking if he should return it or not, that would make it a different situation. Quoted:

I'd imagine that the shop would be a hell of alot more culpable then the buyer. After all they should know what they are doing. Original manufacturer, rework s/n by country of ownership, dot matrix s/n now required by ATF for import. Any one of those could be entered properly in the FFL's bound book and on the 4473. It is their judgement as to which to use. |

Does a FFL leave the SN blank on the 4473 if its an old gun without one? I bought a 60's 22 recently without a SN. I didnt think to ask them. m |
