For the first time in my life my bank account has been hijacked. So far the only thing that is posted is one purchase at a shoe store for 27 bucks, but with my bank being closed for President's Day I'm a little concerned that there is much more that hasn't posted. There are only two cards linked to the account and both were in my/my wifes posession on the date of the purchase, and the two of us were shopping together on the other side of town.
If there is much more to be posted tomorrow, how long does it take for most banks to credit the money back to you? I'm sure there are some of you that have experienced this before. I've closed my two cards via Visa but can't reach the bank until tomorrow morning. Besides a police report, is there anything else I should be doing? |

Funny, I had the reverse problem recently. I needed to make a larger purchase than is typical for me. My bank blocked it out of an overabundance of caution. I had to get with all concerned and arrange for a second attempt, with everyone being very clear about when it is to happen. I as much as told my bank that they need to CALL ME about questionable charges instead of taking it upon themselves to simply block them outright. Particularly when the company receiving the payment is large and highly reputable and not known for scamming people or overcharging them. CJ |

Most banks won't cover the first $50 IIRC. They better cover it. And lets hope that there isn't any more charges that haven't gone through yet. If they freeze my account what happens to the transactions that haven't posted yet? Do they look through them and manually "ok" the ones that I say are legit. I have about 800 worth of charges over the past few days that haven't posted yet. |

This happened to me a few years ago, but they completely cleaned out my checking acct. (~$3k) an just a few hours. Bank had the money replaced in a couple of days and told me they rarely catch anyone, especially those abroad -my money was spent in Taiwan. My money was charged locally, so I know it's a local turd. Plus I went to a car wash earlier on the same day that I've never gone to before. I have a suspicion that it was the cashier girl. I'm sure the turd (who ever it was) never thought that his/her victim would be a cop. I have every intention of have the security footage pulled from the shoe store when I get back to work Thursday. |

Happened to me last week (AGAIN).
Card cancelled, charges denied, new card inbound, life goes on. When you use your debit card to pay for shit your account is going to get jacked. This will give you an opportunity to see what kind of customer service your bank offers. My bank = top notch. All money gets refunded and all charges get disputed without charging me shit. Criminals will snap a pic of your card with their cellphone when you hand it to them. Now they even have scanners that can steal your card's info through your clothes.
I hate a fucking thief. |
