The truck owner must've been really board to waste time on that.

Some states require bumpers... Florida is one, but then gives no definition of what a bumper is.

My brother had an old IH Scout that he mounted a log of cherry wood as a back bumper. Looked pretty cool.

If you attached it really firmly on there, because it's wood and you don't give a fuck, that thing would make a handy place to mount other stuff. Like, you could put a little bench down there, or like clamp or hang all manner of stuff on it.

You could fill it with carpenter bees and anybody who fucks with your truck gets, like, a little bit annoyed by carpenter bee drones getting up in their face and buzzing around like an asshole.

That's pretty awesome.

If I may opine, what type of lumbering idiot wood log all the time and effort fir a bumper like that?  Whenever I see stupid car mods I get sick, if they are white trashy and half-assed, I get even sycamore.

I drove a truck in Boston that had an I-Beam where the front bumper used to be - if you've ever driven in Boston, you know how bad the drivers and traffic is there.  Behind the wheel of that truck, driving though town was like parting the Red Sea - everybody who saw the bumper, knew IDGAF and moved out of the way.

As someone who once made a front bumper for a VW bug out of a single leaf from a Ford Galaxie I salute these folks.

Improvise, adapt, overcome works with clunkers too dontcha know.
