Not a fan of Chevy.  Not a fan of all electric and most hybrid cars but they are making progress.

I am starting to get interested here.

The Chevy Volt is a waste of money IMO and a car for people who have more feels than brains but this new Bolt is headed in the right direction.

http://www.chevrolet.com/bolt-ev-electric-vehicle

Saw it today when Motorweek had a review on it.

Over 200 miles on a charge, 8 year battery guarantee , decent charge times with upgraded charger, 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds ( Yeah, not super car  quick but quick for your average car ), and under $30,000.00 with all rebates and tax breaks.

Increase distance  and get charge times down and I could be in.......  This is all the car my wife would need for daily driving and of course we would keep our gasers.

Wife burns about $ 125.00 per month  just to and from work.

The new Tesla with an MSRP of $30k will wipe the floor with everyone, which I guess is the Volt and the Leaf.

Competition is good.

electric grocery getters within reach of the average working person are coming, and its a good thing*

*as long as we build some new nuke plans to feed them

How much PV do you have?

Bolt could be a lot like free transport.

About 32 miles one way / 64 round trip.  Over 2 gallons of gas per day just to and from work. Sometimes she works 6 days a week..... well, she'll have to deal with something and go in for awhile on Saturday.

Current ride get 27/28 MPG.

PV? I'll show my ignorance , what's PV?

30k for something that small when you can get a carolla or civic for 18k is dumb. Do you think it comes free electricity?
ETA the vehicles in it's size class are even cheaper.

That MSRP is a joke, we will see what the actual price is if it's ever released.  The interior looks amazing!

that site seems to be verrry lacking in critical details like KW per mile etc...

Those tax breaks and subsidies wont last forever. Hopefully enough competitors get into the market to drive costs further down by then.

Can you imagine how affordable the Tesla Model 3 could be if they didn't try to make it like a space ship?

The Model 3 has a freakin' tablet PC in the middle with 4G LTE data from AT&T and a web browser. Get rid of that shit, get rid of the auto pilot, get rid of the cameras, get rid of ALL the luxury shit. Make the actual electric drive mechanisms sophisticated as fuck and cheap out on everything else, and they could probably have a $20,000 car.

It may not be as small as you think it is billed as a 5 passenger care but I have never sat in one.  But like I said " they are getting there".  I am not "in" yet but the progress is good to see.

From a test :   Total, it’s cost us about $87 to go nearly 3,200 miles on 29 charges.

They will only get better so yeah, I am watching this.

Also, no oil changes and gas engine maintenance etc.

Don't get me wrong, I have made the argument and shown the math for example  the VOLT versus a corolla or civic.... and I agree the the civic and corolla make FAR FAR more sense.

But, the Bolt is a little different and where will it or others be 5 years from now?

I have none now but if I ever decide to go that route, I will put some sort of system in for sure...... and then, not just for the car.

Yep. It is possible to built a powerful, electric car with zero "electronics".
People forget we had electricity before everything went digital.

You did not read enough of the article.   The car got a best of 205 miles on a single full charge.  That 29 charges was because they often charged at half of battery left... they did not let the battery completely run down.

Still, $87 to go 3,200 miles........ not bad.

AND again, like I said , they will only get better.
