I rescued this mare last august, when she arrived her health so awful. She had not had her feet trimmed in at least a year, there were actually shoes grown into the soles of her feet. Her teeth were so bad that she had 3" long x 1" deep pockets cut into her cheeks. She was so terrified that if you even moved rapidly near her, her fight/flight response would kick in and she would come unglued. On top of that she was 200# underweight. For the first month I couldnt touch her any higher on her body than the shoulder/neck junction. Any contact near her head would result in a catastrophic explosion. Now, here we are almost a year later and she is my favorite horse. I ride her, my kids ride her and recently a non-verbal child with autism rode her. He had not made a single verbal sound in 8 years but while riding her he made a sort of laughing squeal. His parents were in tears but asked I not post photos of him. She will never completely recover from her abuse: Her entire body is covered in deep scars, including the nasty one visible on her hip. She also has one on her neck that I suspect is a bullet wound, all the tissue is gone completely across from side to side, only covered by skin. That being said, I love this horse Attached File |
