Marvel's Thor Revealed in First Movie Photo by Matt McDaniel · April 30, 2009 The long blond hair. The dark tunic with silver discs. The blood-red cape. Yep, that's Thor, all right. With excitement at a fever pitch for next weekend's release of "Iron Man 2," buzz is already building for Marvel Studio's next adaptation of one of their classic comic books. To fuel the fire, we have the exclusive look at the first photo anywhere of star Chris Hemsworth in costume as the God of Thunder in next summer's "Thor." 26-year-old Australian actor Hemsworth first gained attention from movie audiences in his brief but memorable role as George Kirk –– Captain James T. Kirk's father –– in the opening scene of last year's "Star Trek." Many well-known actors were considered for the part; Daniel Craig said he was approached to play Thor but turned it down. After an exhaustive search, Hemsworth won the role over many other young hopefuls. He even beat out his younger brother, Liam, who was most recently seen opposite his real-life girlfriend Miley Cyrus in "The Last Song." From what we can see of the costume designed by Oscar winner Alexandra Byrne, it looks to be inspired by the latest version of the character from the comic books drawn by French artist Olivier Coipel. While Thor's basic look hasn't changed much since he was originally created by Jack Kirby in 1962, the suit in the movie adopts the more modern look with an armored chest piece and textured sleeves. Slightly different is Hemsworth's beard, which has been used for Thor in the comics but only occasionally. The two most prominent elements of Thor's look that we don't see, however, are his signature winged helmet and his weapon, the mighty hammer Mjolnir. "Thor" doesn't open for another year, but there are some hints about the movie within next weekend's "Iron Man 2." Like the first movie, where Samuel L. Jackson's cameo was hidden after the credits, there is a bonus scene in the sequel for those who stick around to the very end. Of course, Hemsworth will team up with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans –– who was recently cast as Captain America in his own movie –– for "The Avengers," which is scheduled for release in 2012. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, "Thor," which also stars Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman, will thunder into theaters on May 6, 2011. Latino review got a picture of the Destroyer.

Of all the Avengers Thor has the biggest potential to be a failure. He was one of my fav comics but his appeal is not wide? Hollywood can really mess this up. Reference GI Joe, Daredevil, Electra Thoughts? If they do him kinda like Walter Simpson handled his comic back in the mid 80's, it'll rock. |

I could almost, (almost) stomach Daredevil and Electra, but G.I.Joe?? Really?? The real united nations heros, Wayman brother, Cobra Commander with no silver face shield, whatever the crap those silly robo suits were and no, I repeat, no Rock and Roll= fail |

Quoted: I'm not sure we can still be friends. What can I say? I grew up on comics and I loved seeing DD and Elektra finallly portrayed on the big screen –– the stories weren't the best and they weren't 100% true to the comics (which ones are?), but I thought they got the essential elements right and I tend to enjoy movies that Favreau is involved with (libtardedness aside). With GI Joe, I grew up on the 12" Joes back when they were dressed and equipped like soldiers, not wannabe superheroes in outlandish costumes. I am largely unfamiliar with the 3.75" Joes (and corresponding comics and cartoons), so no nitpicking from me there. And I took my 6yo son to see it, so half of the enjoyment I got from it was watching his enjoyment/reactions. But I did enjoy it for what it was to me –– a loud, cheesy, suspend-all-belief-and-thinking action film with lots of fighting and explosions. FWIW, I also enjoyed the Fantastic Four movies that most here seemed to hate, especially the 2nd one that introduced to the big screen one of my very favorite comic characters of all time, the Silver Surfer. (I have all of the original, first series SS comics in my collection, along with the entire original S.H.I.E.L.D. series from the '60s. |

I am so glad that I rented Daredevil to watch it. Had I paid more, I would have been really upset.
I can't explain why the movie was so bad. They followed the original comic book version fairly closely. Some how, it just didn't work. If it hadn't been for Jennifer Garner, I would have considered that time wasted. Hopefully, Thor will work on the silver screen. Can't say I like the goofy looking Mjollnir, though. I have been waiting for the movie about Prince Namor, The Sub-Mariner ever since the 30s. (OK, I wasn't born until the 50s, but I understand they had plans for a movie even back then). Can a movie about Khlit the Cossack be in the making? |

Especially when they do the Avengers. TO me it just won't work on film combining "Gods" with tech. TO me it's like angels with machine guns.. retarded. And isn't Kenneth Brannagh more Shakespeare than comic books? Just doesn't seem like a match to me. It would be like David Lynch doing Sesame Street. |

Good.......Thor isnt correct without the winged helmet or Moljnir
