Got the newest American Riflemen magazine yesterday and page 6 has this ad for a Saluting Americas Armed Forces Tribute Pistol.  I am a fan of 1911s, and being a Cavalry Veteran, I wonder if they could do a theme based on that.  My main questions are, how do you guys feel about: 1. Paying this much for a pistol that I would probably never shoot. 2. Ordering from a company like this (please include if you have ever dealt with them) 3. Spending that much (~2k) on a standard 1911 with fancy engravings.

Here is the link to the ad/website:

I'm not sure about buying a gun and never shooting it.

Personally I would consider a working 1911 like a Springfield TRP then put a few hundred into some low key but durable engraving or personalization.  Something that wouldn't get mangled by normal use.

If you want to buy a commemorative gun you might as well take the money and burn it because you're doing the same thing buying one of those guns.  My Dad always wanted one of the many commemorative Winchester 94's they made in the 80's.  I tried telling him they're a waste.  finally my Mom stepped and told him if he bought one she'd use it on him and got him a sweet Model 94.

I knew a guy who was Special Forces and guys from his unit did a group buy and had some Colt 1991A1's engraved with the SF insignia, ODA number with their tour dates done on the slide.  Colt did a nice job on the guns and he still had a workable weapon that he shot frequently without having to worry about degredation to the value of the gun.  Thats always an option.

I missed out on my deployment buy because I was only 20 and was unable to purchase the handgun.  I have a military themed office going up and want a weapon along with my Saber and Stetson.

I am going to look into other options and see whats available, hopefully end up not spending that much either

Also, these guns are in working condition.  Not that I cant shoot it, I just would have it on the wall.  It would be one of those very rare occasions if I did decide to shoot it.
