So I'm a fairly new team member. I've tried looking through all the other posts and searched as best I could, but I haven't found a conclusive answer.

I've tagged quite a number of threads (like I'm sure others have). Sometimes, some of the older tagged threads no longer go to the actual topic when clicked on. They go just to the forum the topic was started in. However, I see no consistency. I have some threads from the Survival Discussions tagged that are 2-3 months old and they still work. Then I have other tags from other areas that are only 1 month old and they no longer are active.

I've tried looking in the Archives for the topic subject and topic number of my "disappeared topics," but never seem to find them. Can anyone explain the archival process and/or why these threads disappear without any predictable pattern (that I can tell)? Thanks!

I have been on this site since 2001 and I can't find my asscheeks with both hands, I usually post 'axin' about a subject and poof somebody posts a link.

Yeah, I always hate doing that though ya know? Just b/c I want to try and do my homework ya know? More importantly though, there were certain threads I had tagged for reference. Now no sign of them. Oh well, may just have to start posting asking the same questions over and over again.

This is what happened the last time I saw someone post this similar topic in here. No one reading these or does no one know the answer??

Topics that are tacked are not archived, anything that has active participation is not archived, but any thread that has no new posts after 30 days is flagged for archival. When we run the archive process (manual at the moment) it grabs all those threads and moves them into a temp holding DB until I can finalize the process and import them into the archive server. In the past this process was automated, but since the servers are running different software versions, it's an annoying and long process to move data.

On my list is a way to turn those old URLs into automatic archive searches so that the links you've saved will always be valid. Let's hope it works! Also on the agenda is forum/topic tagging by the mods/staff to avoid the archival bot.

Gotcha. So the 30 days with no activity flag for archival is mandatory for any and all posts that aren't tacked. The arbitrariness that appears when some threads older than 30 days are still available and some aren't, is b/c the manual archival process has not been run on that section of the board perhaps.

Think I got it. Thanks Goat! I appreciate it!
