I LOVE Greenland, it's one of my favorite places. But I'm a fan of that type of scenery though

https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/177643/100_1356-668260.JPG

One drawback is that there is not a single attractive native there. Even the kids are ugly. Kids are supposed to be cute. It's creepy.

LOL! You must not find blue eyed blond Scandinavians attractive then. Highest percentage of blonds anywhere.  I worked with an Icelandic guy who had two of the most beautiful daughters I have ever seen. One was a nurse and the other was a Fur coat model. The the father was an Alcoholic and the one daughter had a coke problem, I think they might be prone to that sort of thing. Or maybe just when they come to America.

Not my friends daughter but she was just as pretty if not prettier.

Cost for 2?

Over $100.

The airplane may well be subsidized for costs by the althing to get tourists there and trap / trick them into hemmoraging their wallet just to survive the week.

66 Nordur clothing costs more than cancer treatments. Forgot your jacket? A cold front is coming? F you that will be $500 for the icelandic jacket. Takk fyrir.

Heres what $300 gets you in Iceland. Doesnt even come with sleaves.

Pack clothes, shop at Bonus, and rent a car and drive the ring road. Welcome to a terraformed Mars. Stunning beauty. No buy things.

The part in red is what my wife and I did last summer as part of our honeymoon.  I would add the following to keep costs down:

-We stayed in all Airbnb's (Booked before they went full leftard) for the 9 nights we were there. This very much kept the costs down. Every place we stayed was either a separate cottage or a separate apartment. One night the guy had some issues with his rental cottage we were supposed to stay in. Rather than tell us tough luck, he put us up in a nice hotel. Unfortunately there was no where to cook at the hotel and dinner would have been $100 for two hamburgers and fries. We drove the 5km back to the ring road and ate burgers at the gas station for about $20. Luckily, there was an amazing breakfast buffet the next morning (for free) that we gorged on.

-Check your tires on your rental vehicle. We had booked a Suzuki Jimny. It had bald tires. We told them we weren't going to take it so they upgraded us to a Dacia Duster. which brings me to my next point.

-Rent a diesel vehicle. We got upgraded for free so we were lucky, but if I were to do it again, I would rent a diesel vehicle even with the cost difference. You will make it up in fuel savings. The savings in fuel was amazing. Roughly 50MPG and about 15% cheaper. Also, the diesel was much more suited to driving up and down hills.

-Eat where the locals eat. We were able to get one really good meal every day for about $50. Mostly a big heart lunch. We would ask the locals where to go for a decent meal. We would cook food form Bonus for breakfast/dinner. If we were running late, we would get a pylsa or something.

Also, eat here if near the golden circle. Best tomato soup ever:

https://fridheimar.is/en/restaurant

-Get the Olis discount card. Gets you discounts on food and fuel at their gas stations and a free cup of coffee. Most car rental companies will have one for you if you ask.

I have more but I don't want to type anymore right now. Yes Iceland is very expensive, but you can do things to lessen the impact and make it much more affordable. Just don't buy a lot of stuff.

ETA: My wife reminded me of one big thing. Alcohol is SUPER expensive. We avoided drinking and that saved a ton.

You will get raped on food and lodging.  Another thing, the natives are polite but if they are over polite it's like a southerner here telling you "bless your heart".  Once you understand that you'll realize a lot of natives are passive aggressive pricks.

Want to see $69 airfare turn into $408 per person? Just fly a budget airline line WOW or Norwegian.

Basic flight:
$69 going out flight cost
$129 coming back flight cost (sorry, $69 not available on the date you want to come back)
$100 ($50 to pick a basic seat each way,so 2x)(not even a good seat)
$140 (70 to check a bag one way, so 2x)
———
$408

Extras:
+ $10 meal each way
+ $10 boarding fee each way
+ etc....

Beer is outrageously expensive outside of the duty free area. If you want beer, buy it before you leave duty free....this is the only place I know of where duty free alcohol purchases actually make financial sense.

It's getting into autumn, especially that far north so it'll probably get dark early and be a bit colder inland. That said, it's a fucking GORGEOUS country with some of the most amazing natural beauty I've seen anywhere in the world. period.

In addition to some of the places that other guy mentioned above, definitely get to Thorsmark and stay in the huts and hike around that area for a couple of days. So peaceful and relaxing.

There's so much cool shit in the Golden Circle area that you could spend your entire trip there and not get bored.

It’s an island, so everything is shipped in. Their taxes are insane,( socialism) as stated above buy your booze at the duty free. Shop at Bonus, cook as many meals yourself as you can. Don’t buy a lot of stuff to take home, and price compare whenever you can. Lots of Iceland’s attractions are scenic and don’t cost anything but gas to get there.

Am neighbor.

Not going this year sadly, I wish I could though. I've been twice already.

Little tip when flying WOW air though, your luggage is NOT free and will be an additional ~$60 each leg. So if you want to bring anything more than a backpack it's not actually going to be that cheap.

Another thing: NOTHING is provided on the flight. Not even water. Not kidding. However, if you ask for hot water for tea they'll give you a cup and you can just let it cool off and drink that... It's BS.

If you've ever had even the slightest inkling about going to Iceland - WOW air is a good way to go just... know what you're getting what you are paying for - which is not much more than airfare.

Suggestions on places to go:
1. 64.023042,-21.211026: Amazing 1 hour hike up to these natural hot springs.
2. Seljalandsfoss
3. Skógafoss
4. Solheimasandur Plane Wreck
5. Lake Mývatn
6. Hverfjall
7. 65.430944, -14.599455 Amazing view.
8. Snaefellsjoekull National Park - Don't go here during the winter, you won't be able to do much. :/

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask! I'd post my pictures that I've taken on my trips, but I don't want to go too crazy with my first post here. :P

Anything special required for an American to rent a car in Iceland? (Insurance, drivers license,...)

Ours I think was $2000 CAD for a week for an SUV. Diesel was $2/ litre. Right hand. They push this special insurance but I don’t think it was needed. We rented from Sixt. Also get the car at the airport, a taxi from Keflavik to Reykjavik is horrendously expensive.

Everything there was expensive. When I go back, I think I'm just going to bring a tent. Our AirBnb apartment was like $1700 for a week.
