What is the deal with abnormally high tides in the NC area? It started
during the last hurricane so I figured that was why, but they are still

very high and the storm is long gone.

Astronomical tides ?
What part of the coast? I heard dredging inlets and the ICW affects erosion and tidal planes.

Where I am in CT on a tidal cove is unaffected by any river, and we have a mud flat twice a day.

Did spend some time in Pamlico and Dare Counties; don't believe the sea levels are rising.

I didn't see anything abnormal on the tide table. I have a flat bottom triple wide Jon boat, I don't really watch the tides anymore.
Last full moon was a bit high. Are you noticing a higher driftline? Erosion?

George Bush is causing them.

I know the sea isn't rising.  I see it in the water in the yard and on the pilings on
the bridge near me. It has been noticed by others also. Not worried, just curious.

It gets this high on occasion, though we usually know why.

Down here in SE Hampton Rhodes a lot of the brackish water and bays are affected by wind driving the water into the area.  Strong SE winds will drive it up substantially over the regular average.  N NE winds and it will be much lower.

Same here.
Water piles up on east wind, and blows out on a strong NW blow, leaving me stranded in my duck blind.

Hurricanes move and create new channels.

It probably deepened one that allows more water to move in with the tides.

ETA:
Noticed the NC tag, You probally just have a NE wind. That will stack up water.

There are always huge tides in the fall, they flood the duck flats here which makes boating viable.
