Ok, so after all the trouble shooting, it appears time warner/roader runner cable is some how blocking my ability to view ARFCOM. Spent time with the techs and have used both our computers at difference locations and was able to surf fine. Tried the wifi on my pda and it won't load the site at home. Not the router etc etc. Used the annomyizer (spelling) website and was able to view the site. Time Warner says their test computer gives them the same "timed out" etc page, but they claim that is because they are on firewalls etc that might do that, so it must be a problem with the site. I'm doubtful as they don't have problems loading the site themselves when not running it from my line.

WTF?

I've really had it and my wife is flaming pissed (she teaches con law/ civil liberties and is a bit of a gun nut, so this pushed her over the edge.)

We don't have cable or a contract, just the internet. Need to find out what's available in my area.

That's what we'll get if all the clueless idiots around here that screech against Net Neutrality get their way.

Desk was scattered with gun magazines and hunting mags never had anyone complain about specific web sites not working normally it was just complaints about shitty service in general

WNY by chance? I'm in Buffalo
I figured it was an ISP issue

strange thing is ping properly resolved to an IP address and replied, so it wasn't a dns issue nor was it a general blockage of all traffic to/from that IP

my zip is 14226- same exact dead time as me. Interesting. The second guy at time warner I talked to sounded like a bad Rush Limbaugh impersonator and laughed at me- said "obviously it's my web browser." He quit laughing when he realized it was on tw's end and apoligized.

friend of mine in the area was getting it the entire time. different zip though.

I'm also 14226
I'm not super familiar with how cable companies segment their internet service network but I now I'm thinking something with the equipment fairly close to the end user point then vs at their main hub

I remember year ago when I was in college and me and my roommate had power link back when it was still Adelphia cable
we had total loss of internet and the third guy to come out to test our signal strength (which was excellent even after the splitter we had) and replace our modem admitted it was due to an "upgrade" and that "half the city was out and all he was doing for the last 3 days was replacing modems"

they don't like to admit when issues are on their end
