Did anyone catch this last night on the Sci Fi channel? It's a sci-fi-ed retelling of the Wizard of Oz. Scarecrow is a zipperhead who has had part of his brain removed, the lion is an empath, and the tin man is an ex-cop who watched the .gov murder his family. Dorothy is know as DG and is......well she ain't Judy Garland. The presentation is very dark and brooding and the CG, especially of the flying monkeys, so far has been outstanding. Actually it has more of the feel of the book than the show we all grew up with. First episode will be replayed tonight at 7 ( I think) with second to follow. Not that bad. |

I was pretty psyched about it. I like fantasy/sci-fi stuff. Unfortunately, I think that it is fairly lackluster, at best. I like the main girl, though. But, I'm sure most ARFcommers would kick her out of bed in disgust. After an hour or so, I watched Excalibur for the 500th time. |
Zooey Deschanel. Better known for Hitchhiker's Guide..., Elf, and other projects. (FWIW, her sister plays the title character on FOX's Bones...) |

The story is interesting, but the acting is bad, and it's rather poorly done. I'll probably watch the second part, but I don't hold out much hope. It's pretty ambitiouis in the firstplace to mess with something like OZ...and to not carry it off is a big FAIL. Shane |
![]() This version is/was way better I promise. youtube.com/watch?v=foABtXqGdgU |
Kind of like the original movie. |
Not quite. He had to watch the .Gov brutilize hsi family. They did not die. Near the end of the 1st part it is indicated they lived for a while as they begged Zero to let the Tin Man out of his 'cage'. |
OK, I can see the resemblance in the eyes. |

One thing I don't get...all of the characters share traits of the originals except the lion. The original scarecrow had no brain...this one had his stolen. The original tin man had no heart...this one lost his love/compassion when his family was murdered. The original lion, despite the fact that he was supposed to be the king of the jungle, was a coward...this one has empathic abilities. Huh??? I don't get it. How is that trait at all similar to the original? |
He showed lack of courage the first time he met Cain. He growled at him, Cain pointed his gun at Raw, and Raw backed down. Were you not paying attention?

My wife and I watched it last night; we both thought it had an interesting SCI-FI spin. What I noticed, from the character of the Tin Man (and naming the show such), seemed to have a parallel with Roland from Steven Kings "Dark Tower" series of books, to include the imagery of a world that is past and broken--as in the decayed "yellow brick road" they travelled on. As with Roland, the Tin Man character is seemingly played as the last of his kind in a quest to save his world from decay. Kinda cool--waiting to see how it pans out with the aspect of the "Tin Man/Roland" character development. |
The acting is bad and the script is horrible sounds like a 15 year old wrote it. The whole thing just don’t feel right, it feels cheesy and contrived. |

Meh... cheap remake. The Wiz with Michael Jackson is a much better version. |
He turned around and ended up being a good guy. |
not to mention they treat him like a dog |
I'm still holding out hope they're turn The Lost Room into a full-on series. That was one of those rare sci-fi successes.... except it probably didn't produce nearly the audience they had hoped. Oh well.. they should take into account the fact that the channel is genre TV and try appealing to that kind of fan more often... I'd certainly rather watch Lost Room again than WCW wrastlin. |
